SGW, Scheutzen Gun Werks,  is the daddy of Olympic.  Does anyone have an original factory SGW rifle. Let's see photos of 'em if you do.  I have a couple 86 lowers I'm wanting to build an M16A1e1 out of. I figure date of lower shouldn't matter, but this being an A1 and a full fence, I figured it would work well with the project.

I think I have one of the early lowers, not complete rifles.

This is what it looked liked when I first got it:

I then sent it off to US Anodizing and got it refinished:

Now that's cool. Looks milled out.......  These lowers are the SGW stop sign type, A1.

I looked up the serial number and if I remember correctly it was early 80s.  It did not have the stop sign on it.  Yes it is milled out.  A very solid lower.

By the way, the lower came with a full auto FCG including selector.  I changed it out.

So, would a mid eighties a1 SGW lower make a good base for a 711 build?

As purchased in 1983. I wanted as close as I could get to a Vietnam A1. Colt parts except for the lower.

I figured that I would just need to find a teardrop FA and I'd be good.

Then I found this forum . Thus I discovered that I had a problem, and to solve the problem:

So, then I had two:

You should never get two ARs, because they multiply after that:

I bought 2 of the stop sign SGW rifles in 1984/85. Mine had M16 selectors and had pins pressed into the receiver to prevent the selectors from being moved into the "AUTO" position. On one of mine, the pin loosened in short order and fell out. How about yours, are they like that?

When I got it, it had be unmolested.  All surplus parts except the lower.  My research showed that quite a bit of it was XM16E1 parts used by Palmetto.

US Anodizing Did their magic!
