The last gunshow I attended treated me pretty well. I managed to come away with a nice haul that included 3 Type C stocks. Each shows wear, scuffs, one has a small hairline crack on the rear edge near the buttplate. They all have nice mottling, one is really heavily mottled. I just figured I'd throw these pics up here for all to enjoy and to offer encouragement that retro gold is still out there.

I have heard these are pretty rare, just how uncommon are they? Its interesting that the seller knew they were Type C's, but he was convinced they were beyond saving because they were dirty and the sling swivels were rusty. I've paid more for run-of-the-mill type D stocks. Anyway, a little elbow grease, rust remover, and some Mothers Mag Wheel Polish and I think they are looking pretty nice.

Are these only correct for a 602?

Nice find.

The shows at Novi have given me my best retro finds. I got the minty constant curve mag there last spring too.

Birch Run was good to me two weeks ago, got a pile of dimpled pins for $1 each.

Excellent score.  Used on the  early M-16's until parts stocks were depleated probably into early 1965 or so.  Most got broken up so another retro load saved.  They have value although nothing like pristine un-repaired.  Probably could still easilly sell one and get what you paid for the lot.  Nice that two are pre straw hole and they are the earlier pieces probably more associated with the 602 model.  Straw holes usually on all but the earliest XM16E1 and 604 models generally.

Also I did make a post about these in the appraisal section if anyone would like to help me place a value on these.

So what happened to those? There were only 4 left when I rolled up. Did they find their way to your basement stash of retro parts?

He sold some at that show and has a few more to sell. One guy bought a box of them from him.

I have one on my sper early 604 and one on my 602, I wouldn't hesitate putting one on an early XM16E1 but I'm a slickside junkie.

He actually had 4 C's. I left behind one that I didn't feel was salvageable. It looked like it was full of water at some point and it froze. There were some cracks to the body of the stock along the buffer tube and the foam interior was no longer attached to the stock body.
