Doing a rebuild of XM16E1. I have Upper minus BCG and charging handle. Also have buttstock,Edgewater buffer and spring. No Lower.Believe S/N might be something like 711XXX. Want to shoot the thing when I am through. Want to be historically accurate but want chromed barrel. Where can I get parkerized 20" .625 chromed barrel. Also parkerized  .625 FSB , .625 triangular handguard cap and dust cover? Any advice and/or suggestions that would aid me in this rebuild would be greatly appreciated. I really do not want to reinvent the wheel.

If it's an original XM upper, I'd use it. That barrel may not be as bad as you think - although most of them got shot out. Regardless, we could help you more with some pictures.

Put up some pics like Morg said in the other thread.

Thank you gentlemen for reply. Brand new to the site, not real sure how it works. barrel was heavily rusted. So far I have not been able to remove FSB or flash hider. I have been soaking in Kroil for three days, gonna try to remove again tonight. I am in Gallatin,Tn. Will try to submit pics. My research and help from guys at retroblackrifle suggest it is all original. have talked to Mike at Nodak,he is not taking any new work. Any suggestions on how to bribe him into doing me a lower?

This. I sent my order in very recently for a NDS-XM16E1 receiver and got the call last night from Harlan. It should ship to my dealer within a couple of days.

Motivational pics.

A NoDak lower is worth the wait.

Just to let you know, you have to host photos on photobucket or a similar site to post pics. The first time I tried to upload pics I didn't know this.

GoatBoy (the board administrator) has implemented a site rule which prevents new users such as yourself from posting photos inline until they have 50 posts. Site staff, moderators, and team members can vote to approve the images, and once there's a sufficient number of approvals the images will appear. We've had some issues with new users/retreads posting inappropriate photos and the rule is meant to prevent that.

I did see your photos and voted to approve them, so once a few more people vote they'll show up.

Nice collection of parts, thanks for posting.  I like that upper receiver and charging handle combo.  Is the slip ring rough textured?  It almost looks like some refinished ones I've seen.  What markings are on the barrel and how bad is the bore and chamber?  (erosion, rust)  Here is something very similar, one of my favorites:

Slip ring looks just like yours. barrel covered in rust when I got it. Parkerized finish very degraded especially from FSB to muzzle. FSB corroded and pitted. Flash hider corroded and pitted. Like to never got flash hider off. Cannot budge pins in FSB. Visual on bore shows a lot of rust. Could be shot out? Heck it is 50 years old

Nice! Looks like you need a lower receiver, lower parts kit, receiver extension (aka: buffer tube ), late style buffer in lieu of the edgewater, bolt carrier group...then you will be in business.

Nice parts.

You'll want a gray buffer tube.
I think Centerfire Systems had them.

I hate to say this, but search the EE if you want a gray tube at a decent price. The big name vendors have pushed the prices up to about $40 to $50 for an A1 receiver extension.

I meant this style of buffer (linked below), which replaced the Edgewater. Edgewater buffers are selling for a couple hundred dollars plus or minus...and they were replaced for a reason.

About two weeks ago Stag Arms had chrome BCG on sale. I bought one for my XM project. BCG arrived promptly ,great service, and looked great. It took me a couple days to find time to fool with it,cleaned it up etc. Put it in the XM upper I have and it would not slide in. Needless to say I was puzzled. Took BCG from my 6920 and it slid right in,Stag BCG went in my 6920. Called Stag and real nice guy in service could not explain and advised to send it back. I did and promptly got refund. If anyone has any thoughts on this situation please share them

Bummer. I think I suggested the Stag as a substitute stand in for an original BCG . It sounds like a tolerance issue, the receiver ID may have been made to the small side, and the bolt carrier OD to the high side, resulting in the tightness. It is also possible the plating was slightly thicker than spec on the Stag BCG.

Help. When I get to barrel installation will I need a 5.56 or a .223 Headspace Go Gage. Have not decided on barrel yet but was excited to hear about Brownells soon to be offering a retro barrel .Probably be Feb. before I decide. Will barrel decision dictate the size gage I'll need? Trust Santa will be good to everyone. Merry Christmas!

There is both the chromed and parked XM carriers on GB. Would recommend finding a CMPC barrel or CMPB. They show up from time to time on the EE and gunbroker.

Potential barrel solution here: http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_7_159/1362983_Colt_604_upper_w_barrel__VG_condition__pic_heavy__price_lowered.html

I've been eyeing it for weeks to replace the C MP B on my XM16E1 but don't want to take the plunge. Buy it, break it up, sell the receiver and you should be into a nice C MP C barrel for ~$300.
