For the finish I went with the Auto primer, and I'm pleased with the results so far.
The following pictures are after the  wet sand with oil an 4/0 steel wool with a good buffing
with clean towel.
The color darkened considerably, which I like.
I did not want a 'new' look and think I got it
looks like an older part with a decent finish .
I'll be adding 'wear' as I go.....
Next up, the lower. I hate to mess with that pretty thing but I'm going to.
Thanks for looking

Just finished profiling a upper into 601 configuration for my Prototype build.
Mods were:
Removed the raised rear sight arrows
Removed the little hump on the left side that aligned with the lower
Removed the casting line from inside the handle
Moved the offset on the right side to meet the lower
Drilled hole for the spring
Angled the overhang at the charging handle
I'm pretty sure thats all the necessary modifications.
Next I'm going to wet sand the upper with Hoppe's and 4/0 steel wool.
Hopping to impart a clean  'used look  if possible.

Well I finally tackled the NDS Prototype lower, and I' am pleased how it came out.
I like the way it looks, I just didn't want it to look 'brand new'.
Not sure about durability.
My intent was to have my modified upper anodized to match the lower, but the cost is kinda high on this build already.

I prep ed the upper and the lower with 4/0 steel wool, and a good cleaning with Acetone.
I may age the upper and lower, not sure yet

Next the hand guards, grip, and butt stock need to be Green over red, not sure I can do this one, but it's only paint.
thanks again for looking.

That's some very nice work there.  I particularly like the angled CH tang.  It looks better than I'd have expected it to!

So with the primer finish, did you leave the underlying anodizing alone (other than the spots where you machined the piece)?  Anodizing, of course, hardens the surface, and I'd be uncomfortable taking any more off than necessary, but that paint sure looks like you started with a pretty smooth surface--unless it leveled really well.

IDENT MARKING did the 'Pegasus Hollywood' logo.
I've used them for a 601 lower and a IDF lower.....
all very nice work.
The white hi-lite is chalk for picture taking, removes with a tooth brush.
