Now that I've finished building a 605 dedicated 22lr upper, thought I'd try a building a 607 style dedicated 22lr upper.

I order a dedicated 16" barrel with stainless steel conversion & collar from CMMG in February  CMMG dedicated 16" barrel w/ SS conversion kit   Not sure how long it will be until shipping.  Once it arrives, it'll be immediately shipped to John Thomas for some work.

I then tried for 3 weeks to contact Total Silence by phone, voice mail and email  to purchase a 607 bolt-on stock assembly, 607 style moderator and 607 handguard assembly....unfortunately, I never heard a word back from them.

Having no luck with TSI, I chose to move forward.  Ordered a set of the triangle carbine handguards from PK firearms...which I don't care for the look of them when I got them (see the pics).  Still unhappy with the parts, I then contacted "jhud" for the 607 handguards (ordered).  Then I decided to use an "entry buttstock" and brick moderator w/grenade ring.  The magazines in the pictures are from Blackdogmachine.  They hold 15 rounds and look very close to standard 20 round magazines.

Here's a few pics of the rough layout of parts...

Stay tuned...updates to follow as parts arrive.

You need to find the A1 stock and cut it down that stock looks awkward.

I like it.

Reminds me of the carbine I'm building.

I wonder how much length an ACE folding stock adapter would add to it.. Being the .22 kit doesnt use a buffer tube.

Great idea for a dedicated .22.

I like the idea of the entry stock as a budget alternative. But some kind of 607 mock up would be cool eventually.

Yes, I agree.  My eventual goal is to have it look like a 607.  Got some things going on to possibly make it happen.

Still not sure why I never heard any return communication from TSI when I was looking at investing over $600.???

Thank you.

BTY, "BigRix", I like your build thus far.

It's nice to be back in a subject that I'm having fun with, versus dealing with the B.S. and clusterf&*$k of the Colt M16 parts kit issue that Royal-Tiger is selling.

My credit card has been hit by CMMG, so my dedicated LW 16" barrel with stainless steel conversion & adapter must be on its way.  Upon receipt of the barrel, I will be sending it & some other parts to John Thomas to receive some of his magic (remove bayo lug, smooth the casting marks on the FSB, cutting the barrel, etc.).

My original intent was to build a 607 look-alike.  Should be receiving the cut-down 607 handguards from jhud any day now.  Unfortunately, I couldn't find a 607 moderator, so I'm using a Brick XM moderator with grenade ring...so it's kind of a mix-master of parts.  Maybe sometime in the future I'll run across a decently priced 607 bolt-on stock assembly.

More updates to follow...

There is documentation of 607's with the later 'XM177' moderator,  no GL ring, so you are GTG IMO. The stock is the hard part. You can call it whatever you want, but without a 607 stock, you will never be totally happy with it, and it will not really be a 607. The stock is the key to a 607 build. Just my opinion.

Mdybe some body could make you a 607 dummy stock?
Non retracting but with a 607 buttplate?
As long as the length isn't a issue,

Sorry if this has been covered, I just jumped in on this thread

Check with braceman, he can make you a 607 flash hider
Also I think he has made some 607 buttplates with lever

Thanks for the suggestion.  I talked with "braceman" on 4/14/13 about producing these items for me.

Received the correct 607 "cut-down" version carbine handguards from jhud on 4/12/13 and the dedicated barrel from CMMG is scheduled to arrive tomorrow (4/16/13).  We're getting closer.

Received the 16" LW dedicated 22lr barrel and stainless steel conversion w/collar from CMMG. Talked with "braceman" about making a 607 moderator and faux 607 buttstock assembly.

It looks pretty darn good with the cut-down triangle handguards and rear cap that "jhud" made for me.

Just need the moderator and I can send the barrel assembly to John Thomas to work his magic (remove bayo lug, smooth & install FSB, cut barrel, crown, thread and install the 607 moderator).

Getting so close now....

Received the 607 style moderator from "braceman" on Wednesday (4/24/13).  Looks pretty darn good too!!

Here's a few pics comparing it to a xm177 style moderator (by "brick")

Now the barrel assembly is off to John Thomas

Stay tuned for additional updates.

Received the barrel from JT after he worked his magic.  He did his usual superb job!!!

It's unfortunate we must deal with the SBR & $200 tax issue, as this upper would look so much better if it was at the proper barrel length.

This project is almost complete.  Here's some pictures of the completed upper.  I purposely didn't show the buttstock as I've got a few surprises coming....stay tuned!!

Received the finishing touch for this build...a complete "NIW" TSI 607 buttstock assembly!!!  A fellow site member contacted me about an extra he had.

Thanks to all who have helped me along the way and for watching the progress.

Here's a few pictures of the stock and the final build...

Turned out awesome, a real stock finished it off nicely.
Well done, when do we get a range report?

Trying to get out on Monday.  I'd like to run about 500 rounds through it.  That should be a good break-in.

That looks great. I'm working on a retro .22 myself but still have a ways to go.

What lower and upper are you using?  They look great.

This is really cool. I have half a retro carbine build completed (need barrel and bolt group) and this looks like a really cool idea. My only 22 is a bolt action, and such a build would be pretty fun for cheap plinking.

Is the CMMG barrel .625 at the FSB?

Thank you.

Upper is an extra SP1 I had in my parts box.  It took some time to finally get the large hole to small hole adapter sleeve at the right point to get a good fit.  I like the way the contour lines match under the port door.

The lower is an NDS XM partial fence.

Yes, it is .625.  I sent John Thomas a M16A1 FSB from a parts kit which he smoothed, cut the bayo lug, reparked and installed.
