Hey every one I plan on sbr-ing one of my ar15's . I want to do my one retro carbine a transitinal colt sp2 a2 . Question is should I replace the barrel or chop it down? The barrel has over 22,000 rounds through the pipe but it is a colt barrel and still shoots pretty ok . Or should I look for another upper ( sp1 upper and build it with a dd 10.3" barrel and surplus fsb?) Here she is as it stands now .

With that many rounds, I would chop the barrel. For far less rounds through ANY Colt lightweight, I would not. IMHO

22,000 rounds and still going? Now THAT is impressive.

And in all honesty, I would buy a new barrel instead of paying to cut down a barrel that’s probably at or near the end of it’s life.

I agree. If it was mine I'd cut it, but I wouldn't be paying someone. If you're going to spend the $, spend them on a barrel with more life in it.

Ok , i priced it all out and ill just get a second upper so i can save this one to put it back to original if I want. Does anyone know where to get a sp1 upper ( stripped )? I've searched and can't find one . Plenty of the small hole uppers but I'd like to keep it big hole, if anyone had a lead on one id sure apricate it if you could let me know. I found another sp2 ( a1) upper on GB but don't want the FA.
