THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT Thanks John for putting up the excellent instructions! And thanks to fastswift for sending me some mags to use instead of cutting up some retros. He wouldn't let me pay him for them, the requirement was pics instead. So here you go fastswift as promised Will update the thread with more pics tomorrow when everything sets and I can do more work on it.

Also John's instructions are for those without major tools, so wanted to give it a wirl. Now the second set of mags I have ARE steel at will be a different story on being usable ![]() |

I'm no welder,,but IIRC,,tig IS for aluminum and almost any autobody shop does tig nowadays.
PS,,sometimes a case of cold beer can go a long way with guys at an autobody shop |

if you have any local boat yards/marinas or larger motorcycle shops they usually have someone who knows how to weld aluminum as well

One of our curriculum in welding school was Aluminum, best to find someone who TIGs Aluminum exclusively.
Real easy to blow a hole through the wall if you're not careful. |

I wonder if you could use those welding sticks you use with a propane torch. Can't recall the name of them. They work great on aluminum. The old man demoing it welded a coke can to a plate and it was SOLID.

I wanted to do this one at home just for fun and as cheap as possible so didn't want to take it somewhere and getting it wielded up.
Also I have been looking at John's instructions for a long time and kept saying I was going to try it out. I do plan on doing up some that are wielded up and can be used for sure but like I said this was just for fun.
So that being said here are the finished pics of the mag body. Not thrilled with the color of grey so may strip it down and redo it color wise but I'm pretty damn happy with it otherwise. It locks in nice and does fall free of the well when released.
And to settle down the masses here is a pic of another mag body
Wonder if I'll get in trouble for this haha

Those old mag bodies I think were made in the last 24 hours before the 1994 AW ban became active. Made of thick and soft aluminum – And they never looked better.
Nice job Riggs! You fulfilled your side of the deal! Pictures look great |

Forgive the ignorance but is it expected that a 25 rounder will feed reliably? I love the look of straight mags, I far prefer them aesthetically to curved mags, but I keep going curved due to fears over follower tilt...

That looks very nice. I will be looking forward to seeing that mag with maybe some green paint clipped into a proto ar15 build.

Always posing for pictures with both guns and girls, projects going on the garage, and John Mellencamp’s “Pink Houses” blaring on the stereo. (and of course "Lone Wolf Maquade" - the movie - always on in the back ground) You wouldn’t by chance have a couple of early Ford Bronco’s and a Chevy Blazer hanging out in the driveway? |

Haha no on all of those. But I do have a '66 Mustang in the garage
Would have more outdoor pics but with it hitting 106 on the average around here it's just to damn hot to shoot. Makes me glad Blondie puts up with me doing small projects like this in the house |
