No, you're not missing anything. Another freak auction. It's been happening more and more lately. I still don't understand why $100 receivers are bringing $300+, especially this one without a port door, and it looks refinished.

That is what a nice retro barreled upper should go for. Oh, Well.
Sure would like to find a real 601 upper....

You know, as a business person, when I see an auction that brings a price like that I always look at it closely. I want to understand what about the auction generated that much passion in the buyer. Sometimes, it might be exquisite, art-like photographs...but personally, I'm a strong believer in the power of words. The right ad copy is a powerful force!

So I checked this one. "Very nice take off A1 upper, Colt proof marks, complete sight with raised arrow. Tear drop forward assist. Minor handling marks, shows vary little use. No reserve. Thanks for looking "
Nope. That's succinct, but it ain't poetry!

I just don't get it.
Sure wish I did. When the time comes to sell my spare parts, I'd love my auctions to be that successful!
I think any old AR15 accessory marked with the "Armalite" brand is cool...or AR10 stuff marked "AI"!

The disturbing part is that there was no reserve. This wasn't that high because the person was fishing for that high, it's that high because someone wanted it. Makes me really think hard about putting some of my extra uppers up for sale. Then again, the last one I put up only brought $100 (10 months ago?).

Yeah, for those of us wanting to build a 603, this is pretty discouraging.
Sure would love to find a dimpled safety for my 601!

The ONLY thing you missed was overpaying for it. 3 idiots that decided they "needed it,wanted it,gotta have it" bid stupidly. Kudos for the seller, sux for the rest of us,,,maybe you newer guys don't recognize him,,but that seller was a guy who helped cause 601 and 602 parts (remember the 1st 2 edgewaters that went for over $300???) to go sky hi! He and Hoodlem got into bid wars and drove prices up BIGTIME! Now he must have everything he needs for all his builds and is dumping the rest.

Boy,I'd love to stumble across a Redfield Jr. one piece base marked 40X on the bottom

Makes me feel like I scored big time last week with the same upper (and a SP1 BCG, CMPC barrel, handguards, gas tube, etc) for $350 shipped to me.

That'd better be one hot 603 when he's done building it.

every time I see one of those crazy auctions I look through my parts boxes and start thinking about putting stuff up on GB...but I'm not lucky enough to get those "gotta' have it" types of buyers, so it probably wouldn't pay off for me and I'd just end up kicking myself for selling off the parts at a later date
the A2 is not now, nor will it ever be, retro......but I still like 'em

When they go that high I figure NoDak needs the money more.

Vintage is nice, but at the core it's USED vs NEW. Used without a provenance is never worth more than new. Period.

That price is ridiculous.

A Colt triangle and square proof *is* provenance.

...but not $371 of provenance!

I also was shocked when it was at $160. Yes I'd sell some for the $160 less door and no I'd never get $371. More coins for GB! I guess timing was the key here.

It has to be partly timing... I hope...

When I was looking for an AR-18 stock assembly, I placed my max bid and then someone bid almost $100 over that. They must have really wanted it and had plenty of cash to spare because it was quite a bit.

A few months later I scored one for much less than my previous bid with no competition at all.

Some people just have more money than sense.

Wow, if a run of the mill a1 upper goes for three times it's worth,
Maybe I can get 1500. For my 607 stock!

Provenance? Maker's mark.

Besides, I think I can get a triangle stamp made for $371 then all of my Nodak uppers suddenly have provenance!
