THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT
I found three photos of what I think are Seals with very interesting made in the field slings.
What would be the purpose for having a sling between the front sight post and the front of the upper receiver? You really can't carry it that way. May make it easier to drag the rifle on the ground with you.
The guy in the middle rear of the second photo and the third photo has what looks like a 1/4 inch rope sling coiled up and taped the the handguard.
Any ideas?

Slings can be a PITA when you don't need 'em, but when/if you do .... you gotta have it.

Yep, just like nowadays you see pics of SOF guys with the sling rolled up and rubber banded to the stock of their M4; it's up, out of the way, but available quickly if you need it.

I was thinking it might have something to do with weapon retention during waterborne ops. Like a retro dummy cord so you don't lose your weapon if it comes out of your hands while on the water. Unfortunately I can't see how it would work that way so just a thought.
