Love this thread. Picking up a Type 94 from a large batch of Japanese pistols in two weeks when I head back home for a bit. Looking forward to it and will share pictures when I lay my hands on it.

Got me another one (personally, I'd be buying old guns all day everyday: you get the classics for cheap and they are what I grew up looking at). One I don't see often in these threads (why?): A Colt Official Police.

Love the thing. Similar to its S&W Counterpart of those days (Model 10 and the likes) but Colt. In 38sp.

Yeah, the Colt OP, cool.

Or how about a nice Trooper:

Nice! I find them ugly (the Official, etc). Hence nice. Vintage ugly ends up being nice a few years later.

S&W 1937 .45ACP  (5.5") up top, and a lend-lease Victory (5") on bottom. The Victory had a bad cylinder and would stick one of the cases, so when I found out S&W used .355 .38 special barrels for their .38/200's, I picked up a .38 special cylinder for it.

Yep. Actually slightly less, it being 3 and 5/8 inches.

I really wanted Indiana Jones handgun (that did have a 4 inch barrel)

and this one came up on gunbroker.

This was my Fathers S&W model 64 Given to him by my grandfather when he became a Police officer in 1974.  My Grandfather bought it for him upon staring the municipal Police officers school.   I love the wear on the Right hand guard from Cary/Seatbelt in the car after almost 30 years.   also his initials.    "He has a S&W 686 that replaced this and will be put into the collection once if find him a night stand replacement"  The shotgun is a winchester Police 1200 Nickle from and inlaw who is also a Officer.

The 64 with 4" tapered barrel is a relatively scarce weapon -- Smith didn't make them very long before going to the heavy barrel in that model, just a relatively few years.

New addition to the collection.  Walther PP (not PPK) in .32 ACP.  Dates to 1944 with German Army (not SS) markings.

My minty late 1970s vintage S&W Model 59 9mm.  The original "Wonder 9"   When I was at the Police Academy in 1975, the Salinas PD guys all had been issued 59s....I bought my first one in 1978, and carried one as a duty weapon from 1979 to 1988.

And my 1895 Colt Army/Navy .38 long Colt.  It was presented to Major Chase (later General Chase who commanded the National Guard during the Mining strikes)

Has a .375" bore for original heeled 38s.  It will also shoot hollow based wadcutters.  They switched to .357" bore and modern inside lubed bullets after 1902.

Nice collection.  That 1902 Colt (top center) with the stock hooked to the extended magazine is as rare as the Eagle!  Is that a 712 Schnellfeuer????? (Top left). Sweet collection..  IThis is my second Inglis with a stock.  I also had a 1930 Commercial C-96 with a holster stock, and a Luger with a plank stock back in the 80s.

Is a Model 59 in a Miami Classic retro enough, or does Miami Vice belong in the A2 forum?

The one you refer to with the stock is a 1907 Husqvarna. There is a 1902 Colt in there, but it is on top on the right next to a 1917 Colt M1911. There are sidearms from the U.S., Italy, Japan, Germany, Poland, Canada, Lithuania, Czechoslovakia, China, and one or two others.

Remington Rand 1911A1 & a 4” S&W Model 10 that dates to 1968 are my side arms for retro builds.  Apparently, .38 Spl was popular with tunnel rats due to perceived less noise….I don’t know that would be true in a tunnel, but that’s my sides.

My main retro handgun I use regularly (for CAS Wild Bunch matches) is 1 Rock Island 1911A1.  It is nicely parkerized already.. I added a Colt wide spur mil-spec hammer and arched mainspring housing, and a pair of WW2 USGI brown bakelite grips.  It shoots better than I do!
Pic to Come....

This is from the 1990s...  S&W 6906 9mm (12+1).  It is actually my main every day carry weapon, along with an M&P 9 Shield.  This is a third generation S&W with the 59 being the first.  The pappy of the 6906 was the 469, a second gen that came out about 1984.

S&W 469 circa 1988

I actually fired a pre-production tool room sample of the 469 about 1983, and was smitten.  I have generally had an incarnation of it ever since

My 1903 vintage Smith & Wesson Model 1902 Military and Police (Pre-Model 10).  For almost 120 years old, it is a sweet little weapon.  It lives full time in my RV, in a case with two speed loaders of Winchester Silver tip (standard velocity), and two vintage Bianchi Speed Strips full of snake shot.  It is my camp[ing back-up pistol and snake killer.

Good choices!

Also, if that's retro.... then here we go. Three out of the four are early 90s production. The 1911 is from '84.

My $200 beater Colt MKIV Series 80 Government Model and S&W Model 645 along with an ancient stash of Magsafe Ammo's 92gr +P+ "Agent Load".

Anyone remember this stuff? It has been sitting in my ammo cans since I was shooting a Nintendo Zapper.

My Father picked it up for his tricked out Colt MKIV back in the day, along with 9mm KTW for his Betetta 92SB and Glaser Safety Slugs for his S&W Model 64 Snubnose.

It was a hot product but and an in my opinion, an example of successful marketing versus real diligence in testing.

This was prior to the internet and common use of ballistics gel, people relied on what sounded like a idea rather than real test data.

I believe the Idea was good in concept but poor in performance (where penetration is required )

Great if you want the ultimate flesh expansion on the surface - impressive when shooting water jugs, etc. but poor in penetration to vitals.

I think there is an FBI report indicating that Magsafe /Glaser ammo was indeed lethal but one would likely die from wounds days later from infection rather than immediate damage to critical organs.  While no gunshot would is good, this wasn't exactly the wonder round it was proposed to be.  If there was guntubers with gel tests the fad would have ended quickly.
