How much is a no-drain hole handguard worth?? I believe one of my m16a1 triangular handguards is no drain hole.  Is there anywhere that I can go to see a picture of the difference between the regular and the ones without the holes.  One of mine has very small little round holes and the other doesnt.  One of them is also marked with either an L or an R and I'm not sure whether or not its the one with the hole or without.  I'll take pictures when I get home.  Thanks guys

There should be a photo pointing out the differences in the tacked variation guide. I'm posting from my phone right now, so I can't check.

I have seen them for about $20 to $25.  I gave $20 for mine about a year ago.

Ok so I have a no drain hole handguard, is it any more valuable than a later triangle handguard? I have a new set on the way to replace the ones I have so I wouldn't mind selling it. it is the Right side handguard and does not have an L or R stamped on the heatshield.

Bushmaster doesn't offer 10" barrels anymore...did you buy it used, or was it cut down? who's moderator is it..Bushy's, Bricks...?

problem with it being a 10" HBAR is it will be an NFA item, which takes a lot of people out of the market for it, and most retro guys want a lightweight barrel since it would be truer to the original models

may be better off trying to sell the barrel and moderator separately

+1 - the best idea IMO. If the mod doesn't have flats it's likely a Bushy. You can check prices on their website. W/o knowing round count it's hard for me to put a value on it. I just picked up a 10.5" barreled A1 upper in decent shape for $250 for a friend - I know nothing about the barrel, so in the dark as you are, but the upper looks nice, so that should give you an idea.

I have some retro handguards I recently bought, and I wanted to know the value of them

“R” marked right hand guard. The heat shield is in perfect condition with the usual scratches.

Small Dent (flash makes it look worse than it is)

Some scratches (again, flash makes it look worse)

Unstamped drainhole left handguard, very mottled

Missing two rivets, but the heatshield is still firmly in there

Small chip

No drainhole screw

I was thinking around $25 for everything, would y’all agree?

Out of curiosity . Several years ago back in 99 , i came across a guy with a bunch of odd ar15 parts. some  1 of kind stuff . but he had some in military foil unfired 1/14 twist barrels ,  he had 11 of them and offered them to me for $60 each but back in those days (ban days) I was into building carbines with preban lowers.  and when he told me they were not chrome lined i turned them down. What would they be worth ?

what  is a Colt A1 pencil barrel marked C MP CHROME BORE worth? bore is nice and bright and rifling looks good. it has the front sight post, but it was stripped. i put a trijicon night sight in for the front pin. curious also is it a 1/12 twist? i was kind of hoping it would be at least a 1/9. any idea of value? it is used, but in good condition. definitely NOT new, old stock condition though, but no gouges, huge scratches, bore imperfections, etc. i just mounted it up to my armalite A2 upper. still need a few small parts before its complete, and a bcg and charging handle.

I have a Colt CMPC marked 1969 M16 barreled upper, with recessed front takedown pin hole and early style trap door. Square with C marked upper, no carrier or CH. A1 FH with split lock washer, shiny bore chromed chamber with chrome out to ends of barrel extension. Upper seems to have sat on a rifle in the rack, throat checks out 100% on Hawkeye. Interior of receiver shows no wear other than bright spot on end of gas tube. Exterior finish on metal and handguards is 98%, rack wear only. I can post pics but only scratches are on the handguard slip ring.

Chrome chamber, but not bore. 1969 estimate based on Forum Guide: Chrome on full barrel extension on 1969 barrels and had the new gas tube added in '69. Looks to be original by retaining pin.

Trying to decide if it warrants a complete retro build, strip for parts, or dump it and start over with the right parts. Was going to use barrel for another project until I realized how old it was and that it was complete as built. I was just going to un-ban another 'A1 that I had but this uses a different take down pin, has an unchromed bore, and before I make myself too crazy with my options I wanted to know what the value of this was before I potentially commit the modern equivalent of sporterizing a 1903 Springfield.

Thanks

Hey guys, I bought this at a gunshow a few years ago before doing any real research in what I wanted.

It's a LM forge marked A1 upper with a government profile FNMI barrel, tapered delta ring, A2 door, teardrop FA and it has an A2 flash hider. I can't remember what I paid for it and was wandering what it was worth. Any help is appreciated.

You really have 2-3 parts with that upper.  The LM upper in black is worth  around $100.00. That A1 port door might get you a little more but it has to be refinished gray.  The FN A2 barrel is worth $150-200.  But the whole upper together is not correct for any Retro build.

I am wondering what the value of a 2 position milspec and commercial(bushmaster I believe) receiver extension is. Also would like to know the value of a milspec 3 position which looks just like the 2 position in the pictures and also think it is colt. The pictures are for a milspec 2 position which I believe is a colt but could be wrong.

Link Posted: 1/16/2012 12:48:59 AM EDT
[#31]
I'm gonna assume the three position is a BM also as they were quite popular.  The commercial tube if decent should be $15ish.  The Colt tube will bring more in auction setting.  Figure $50-100 if condition is good and two bidders go at it pretty heavy.  Should have a little thread damamge from pin.  The BM milspec three positions should bring $20-40 in real nice condition.  Only the Colt would sell in my area right now for more than $15 and doubt if you could get $50 for the Colt unless right place at right time.  Gonna have to go www to sell in my opinion.  Last funshow I could have bought a complete Colt for $225 more than likely,  seller had reduced from $300 to $250.  Said I was the only person that even knew what it was in two days.

I have been told this is an early Colt Air Force Mag.  Marked on .223 on the floor plate, not 5.56.  Also has a "1" with a circle on the side.  Any idea what it is worth to someone in the market?

Docsprague –– I'm not too familiar with what the "1" marking is, but for what its worth, I paid 15 each for some Colt mags with the same bottom plate as yours  (but no "1" marking on the side) at the fun show 2 weeks ago.

I would think 20-well used and 30 excellent max. A little more than a standard mag. I paid 10 each for mine, but really very few people notice or care about this stuff its just a 20rd mag to them.

I bought an AR for the preban lower and am trying to sell off the rest. The one part I have no experience with is the metal CA stock.  I don't know if it's Colt or something else and I have no idea what it's worth.

It has a rough textured grey finish (parkerized?).  Other than that it looks like any other metal CAR stock I see online. The tube is a 3 position with the older style nut.  The buffer has a black plastic face.   I'd appreciate any insight as to who made it and what it's worth.  Thanks.

I
built this gun a couple years ago and have toyed with the notion of
selling it. I am trying to get rid of guns I don't use and after
shooting this one twice it has sat in the safe. The lower is a NODAK
XM16E1 with a DPMS parts kit. The upper was black and I had US Anodizing
do the lower and it matches pretty good. The Upper I believe is a Colt
and has a RRA BCG and charging handle. The rifle has been flawless and
shoots quite well. For color reference I put it next to my RRA mid
length. What is this rifle worth roughly, and would I be better off if I
parted it out?

I think the Internet price for a used pair with scratches is $40.  ( ? )  It looks like yours is painted, I would hit it with paint stripper and see how it looks under the paint. Lefts are harder to come by than rights.

I have an AR-15 A2 Govt I purchased new in the early 1990's.

It does not have the bayonet lug and has had less than 1000 rounds fired through it (mostly gun safe dweller).

I do not have the box or manual. The serial is a low 4 digit GS number.

Any ideas what I should ask for the rifle? I am looking to get rid of it as I just don't shoot it much anymore.

Thanks,

Rick

Looking to get this upper and furniture set appraised, if possible.

Looks to be a standard A1 style upper, Gov't profile barrel under the guards (one of which has a crack that would be easily repaired with a bit of epoxy or JB Weld, but it's still serviceable as-is). Everything appears to have Colt markings in one form or another. Mottled A1 grip (I have a matte one somewhere as well), A1 stock, etc. I was told that this was part of a lot that was sold by the US Marshall Service a while back, though I'm not sure how I'd confirm that. Either way, it does show wear from use. And yes, it's dirty (but accurate as all get out for what it is!).

Colt markings, etc. It's a little dusty, so all the little white specks aren't marks.

Another Colt "C" marking (no, it's not a lower-case "e").

I've never seen "relief" cuts like this on any other bolt that I can recall, but I'm not going to get my other upper out to check and see if I'm merely not that observant, or what. Also, it has a faint "MPC" marked on the bolt.

Again, Colt markings. I can't find a date anywhere, however.

Thanks for any help you guys can provide!

All Colt bolts have those reliefs cuts - it's the quickest way to identify a Colt  bolt from a pic. Looks like you're GTG.

Not to knit-pick, Mike - but looks like you have your sling mounted on backwards (The metal clip of the M1 sling is meant to hook onto the rear swivel, rather than the front.).
As far as an appraisal goes - Looks to be made sometime in 1964... I would say it's worth somewhere between $2500-$2800 as pictured with all period-correct accessories, though you could fetch maybe twice that if sold through an auction-site...

Just a guess/YMMV...

I'm curious if what I have here is worth anything. I know it came off of a colt M16 complete upper that was on the market as surplus 6 or 7 years ago. It doesn't have any proof marks or forge codes. It does have a counterbored front take down pin hole. It does not have the correct forward assist but it does have a correct port door. I'm just curious what it is worth. I'm considering selling it but I haven't really decided yet. I snapped the pics quick with my iPhone. If anyone wants better pics of anything in particular I can use the real camera in macro mode.

Upper picture. Never mind the barrel thats on it right now.

Front right area. No proof marks present.

Right rear of carry handle. No forge codes

Counterbored front lug. Scratches shown are the only blemishes on the upper.
