Can't beat free, will post a post-heat treat photo. My gun doesn't have a rear sling swivel... might ask him where it went. As mentioned, mine is a 1969 gun that did not go to Viet Nam. I paid $995 for it and thought I was getting a pretty good deal. If the gun you're getting can be verified to have been to Viet Nam I'd imagine its worth more, but not sure how much more. If the guy is sending you pics of guns that he is not selling and representing them as his own, that is fraud; not someone I'd deal with at all. |

Im not looking to have it shipped or transfer any money being I will be meeting FTF for this deal only after I have a friend up near him lay eyes/hands on it for himself. Im not paying near that price for it so if its been over there or not doesnt really matter much to me. But how could I go about finding out if it truly has or hasnt? |

That is a sweet build. It looks great. What sling/swivel did you put on it? Is that a parkerized finish? I scored a project gun off EE with the stock and most of the pieces I need to do a build like that.

There was some found early on in this thread, and I got one from wherever that was. Can't remember. The buttstock is an original with original sling swivel. I did cheat though. I have a buddy that restores shotguns, and he refinished the 67 shucker to match the 77E stock. He also cut and parked the barrel and receiver. Basically I just bought the parts and told him what I needed done. |

Sorry if I'm digging up an old thread here but I love military shotguns. After reading it for the last two days yuns have me looking for a Savage 520 to convert. I like the Savage/Stevens 520-30 for its unique lines and take down action, no mistaking what it is at the range/show. I plan to get one in good shape, cut down the bbl to 20", install a repro heat shield/bayonet mount and sling w/swivels and wear it out. Damn you guys and your nice projects! Costing me more money n shit...

Oh I bet that will go for a ridiculous amount of money.

Just picked up a Remington Model 10 with a spare barrel for $300 in good shape. I thought it would make a good unique trench gun as I haven't seen one mentioned yet. Problem is the M10 Trench had a wood handguard rather than a heat shield attached to the bayonet mount. Anyone know where I could find one or someone who could make one? If not would it look right with the heatshield?

I would say have one barrel as a riot length and not go with the original trench style. I have a model 10 that is cut to riot length and its slick and handy. I think making an original hand guard would be difficult and cumbersome.

I was thinking about not trying to reproduce the handguard and mount a bayonet mount (minus the heatshield) just far enough up on the barrel so the takedown still works unobstructed. From a quick google image search it looks like I could get the barrel in the 21-22" range and still be able to take it down. I need to find out how to adjust the barrel bushing just slightly because im having a hard time getting the spare barrel on it(spare is the one I intend to cut down). The original gun is a ribbed barrel model #s matching and in really good shape, don't want to cut it up. |

Got a dilemma. Finally got a USGI heat shield for my M1200 clone and turns out it is too large to fit on my cut down commercial barrel. I guess the military versions had a heavy wall barrel. So, I need to either find a USGI M1200 barrel or make a shim that wraps around the barrel somehow. Any help?

If it's the same as the original, just pick the worst of the 2 to cut. (I would check ID myself, or have my gunsmith inspect it.) There is a guy on GB who specializes in SBS choke conversions. If I did an SBS, I would go there. |

I just added this to my retro shotgun stable. It is a faux Stevens 620A trench gun with ORIGINAL Winchester handguard. The handguard is worth more than I paid for SG, so will sell it, buy a correct repro Stevens handguard and maybe have the whole thing parkerized.

Just a note for those wanting to make fake Stevens trench guns.
You can get the same gun for less if you look under store brands like Sears "Ranger" Or Wards Western Field model 30, etc. A clean, already adultered (no collecter value) Stevens 520A (Sears Ranger) on Gunbroker (no affiliation) now that someone better buy before I do With a polychoke, it begs to be removed and cut down. Sears Ranger 520A |

Just ordered a repro bayo mount/heat shield and 03A3 rear sling swivel from Sarco for my '97 Winchester. Will advise when it comes in.

Excellent Work - I love to see those old rag tag shotguns brought back
I just saw an Ithaca police shotgun semi locally, Apparently a factory park job but still has the roll engraved "game scene" receiver (The only part I didn't like about it) for $350. I might go back and get it. Home parkerizing is pretty easy if you get a sand/bead blaster, and a stainless steel tank on a BBQ grill - Brownells kit works well. Also you can go the route of Alumahyde II dark Park gray - did that on one of my Stevens, nobody can tell the difference. In fact my buddy that helps me do parkerizing asked me why I didn't call him over to do it with other parkerizing work and I handed him the can and said because it s"This". He was like "wow - Looks good". Originally Posted By ch139:

Also have to make sure there is little or not pitting at all inside the bore; they're strong guns, but the barrel is pretty thin and pitting can really be the kiss-of-death for an Ithaca. Speaking of that 1940 gun, here are a couple "before" pics, they're the ones from gunbroker, kinda kick myself for not taking any before the work started, but its all I have at this point. The gun was pretty haggard, but pretty much all there (say for the stock - learning experience). The gun functioned and fired fine, just had a bunch of pitting at the snout end of the bore and a bit of a bulge in it (that was OK as I had every intention of having it cut) and the stock was really buggered. I got a new stock that needed "final fitting" and have learned I am not much of a wood worker. Still have the stock and haven't touched it, so will probably try to sell it off sometime to someone more talented than I (not hard to find those people;). Found the "new" stock off ePay as mentioned. Had the barrel cut buy our own GunCat here on the boards and have used Naval Jelly to strip it all down. Was thinking of trying my hand at bluing, but believe the pitting to be a tad too much so will have it parkerized one day. The East Taylor bayonet mount and heat shield is worth every penny and I look forward to getting into Winchesters one day too and using their other mounts. Still have a few parts to collect for it and then have it all parked. Will be a "pretend" prototype Ithaca trench gun. These are the pics of it off GB http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0603/JTR8541/scatterguns/532348606.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0603/JTR8541/scatterguns/138661852.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0603/JTR8541/scatterguns/611637834.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0603/JTR8541/scatterguns/385881013.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0603/JTR8541/scatterguns/476377183.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0603/JTR8541/scatterguns/480040725.jpg |

OK I promised myself this is the last Retro shotgun for a while
" /> I went to my local dealer and he had this lonely Remington 31 with a damn Polychoke on it. Only $200 cash out the door. I just had to neuter that choke and bring to riot-type length. Its the last of the Retro shotguns on my hit list. So I have the Remington models 10, 11, 31, and 870. I got to say the action is smooth as silk on this 31. |
