Thanks. Kaiserman is all about the Jeeps. I've got three right now.

I'll toss up a couple of pics. I'm now kicking myself in the butt for not buying one of the 18.5 barrel 870's that where at the auction, as I've since acquired a Remington top folding stock that would look great on one.

1971 Gladiator J2000, frame stretched 12", wheel base moved back 6". Buick 350/T18/D2 with Dana 60's front and rear.  Dealer optional Ramsey winch and a Knapheide bed with a dealer optional twin piston lift.

1969 Gladiator J3000 Z code Camper Truck. Buick 350/t18/D20 Dana 44/Dana 60. Resto project I bought from Wyoming

1963 Gladiator J300. Currently finishing up a Buick 350/Th400/D20 swap. My plow truck/winter daily driver.

Hello
I just bought a Stevens Model-67 E 12Ga. Shotgun with 20-ish in slug barrel Saturday night.  After doing a bit of research online about it, I found this topic.  Thanks for the idea, think I'm going to join this venture and try and get mine to look like a Vietnam era shotgun.  I've ordered the Savage barrel band and screw, got a sling swivel from an M-1 Rifle and M-1 Sling on the way from Numrich.  I'm not going to mess with the bluing.  I want to use this as a "General Service" Shotgun for home defence and God-willing to just have if I return to Alaska for bear protection etc.
I'm undecided on refinishing the wood, I might strip the finish and walnut stain and put on boiled linseed oil, or I might just leave it as is?  Next I need to find a more "vintage" looking rear sling swivel to replace the "Uncle Mike's" style QD Swivel (not saying they don't make good gear, just want to replace it).  Also ordered two reproduction US WWII Shotgun Ammo Pouches, which go for mega cash, if you can find them.
Yes...give me a few days and I'll try to get some photos.
Thanks
Mark

Does anyone know how to put sling on a Model 12 Riot? I have a Winchester trench gun rear sling swivel, but I have no idea what to put on the front.

It's the front band from a Model 12 Riot.
You probably stand just as good a chance of finding hens teeth, rocking horse poop, or an honest politician.

Does anyone have a lead on the proper buttpads for the Savage 77E? I bought this from a local pawn shop awhile back and everything appears correct on it except for the fact that someone replaced the buttpad. Any help would be appreciated.

You probably already know but what you're looking for is a red pad with T-shaped vents and no white spacer.  Can't tell from your pic what the vent shapes are on your pad, but if they are T-shaped, you might want to check if somebody has added the white spacer.  Once up on a time, that was considered an update by some folks related to Bubba.

I have a brown pad with the T-vents and no spacer that is excess to my needs.  If that would be of any use to you, as a pay-it-forward donation, shoot me an email or IM.

Andouille - nice of you to offer him that, but the brown and red pads are different sizes - the red is much smaller. At least mine are... I don't think it can really be cut down and still look right IIRC.

Nice find. I'm still looking for one. I know all the stuff from Vietnam ended up in Canada in the early 80's by the pallet load. Shotgun, M16 parts and M79.

Very good point........however.........the one I have is a pretty close fit to the red one on my shotgun.......I tried them..........

Admittedly, an example of one, but this one might well work.

No, you might well have been right.  It was/is a relatively close fit on MY clone gun.  Might not be on anybody else's.

Price seems steep to me but someone was searching for the swivel...

Stock with Savage-Stevens recoil pad, I have no idea if it will fit or can be made to fit a 77 stock, but it has the correct T shaped vents....

Just so you know, I bought a similar stock to that ebay stock, thinking the same thing - that I'd use the pad - but it was again a different size. Just letting you know. Maybe you'll get luckier than me. I think mine was a youth stock for a 311 - I don't remember. Now it's just taking up room in the closet...

Thanks for the replies and the info. That ebay link is from Numrich so I am going to call them Monday and try to get a more accurate description of whether or not it will fit the 77E. Also thanks to Andouille for his offer of the pad. I might still go that route if the ebay stock won't work. In either case I will try to get some better photos of the gun when it is finished.

Where did you get the front sling mount?  That would be perfect for mine.  Where yours has rifle sights, mine has a bead.  I think mine was made before 1926 or so because it has the suicide safety and is a double hump.  It is a cut down bird gun.  It shoots great but has an issue feeding.  I think it's in the lifter, it extracts from the mag and lifts the shell but it kicks the front out towards the ejection port then it jams on the front of the port while closing the action.  Then it'll feed 3 or 4 just fine.  Then jam again.  If you cycle it port side up it runs just fine.  I might try replacing some springs because i love this gun.  They just don't make 'em like they used to.  If Mossberg or Remington made Takedown frame 12ga riot guns I'd buy one tomorrow morning.

the barrel band is from numrich.  The swivel is from a 1903.

https://www.gunpartscorp.com/Products/994860A.htm

I don't know much about the older double hump models, but you are probably on the right track giving the springs and lifter a check.  One of mine had problems feeding and it was due to a bad lifter and spring.  Another one had problems feeding due to the shell stop.

Bad lifter on top.

If your lifter has a lot of side to side play the lifter and/or the screw could be worn out and needing replacement.  That could explain why it's fine when you cycle it on its side, gravity is keeping it where it should be.

Remington model 10 is a takedown.

I'm hoping someone on here can tell me about this shotgun barrel I just bought. Guy told me it was an 870 barrel, but it's obviously not. It looks similar to an 1100 barrel, but it has cut outs.

It's marked OL, which should make it a 1964 or 1942 barrel. It is marked CYL, has typical Remington proof stamps and patent info. Also has a the typical "12 GA for 2 3/4 or shorter shells stamping". It's a 20" barrel with bead sights and a cylinder choke bore.

It also has a hand stamped serial number on the magazine ring, along with C6 or CG electro penciled in next to the number. And it has US and the flaming bomb stamped on the barrel, right in front of the receiver.

EDIT: I see it's for a model 11 thanks to Google.

Question on Retro Winchester 1200 Riot Shotgun's:

Anyone have a pic of a 1200 "riot" config in military service?  I have only seen the Trench config in pics of Military service and Canfield's bookon Combat Shotguns says Riot models were purchased in the late 60s, but in small numbers compared to Trench.

I've seen several from the 70's emerge from a local police agency - worn, but servicable shape. Almost battlefield pickup look.    All factory Riot marked with 18" or 20" barrels.
These are all with the shorter "cob" style handguard - not the long one as  seen on the Trench.

Any info on the riot version would be appreciated or pics - I'm not normally a 1200 fan but these looked cool.

For you guys who bought extra 77E stocks from Sarco back in the day (to get the sling swivels)... Anybody have an extra (original military-type) 77E stock, or buttpad, or sling swivels, or other parts left over from your project that you want to sell?

Thanks!

I'd really like to find some of those 77E sling swivels.  I made a couple for a friend, after we couldn't locate any.  That was less than fun.

So today I came home with a very pretty 1948 Ithaca 37 for $100. Only catch was an amateur cut the barrel down to 19". This screams trench gun build to me. Thoughts?

Trench or Riot - Can't go wrong either way.  Clean up the cut and parkerize - Those Ithaca's are nice and light - with the riot config they remain pretty light swing quick.

I love inexpense old retro shotguns.

Everytime this thread comes up I feel the need to find more.

Yeah, I like the riot idea. Might get the muzzle crowned properly and a bead put on.

I grew up reading a 1965 Shooter's Bible that had a whole page of short-barrel Flite King guns.

The slide release was a little too stiff.  Clean, re-lube and took it out busting clays got things back working right.
It started as very rusty Winchester Model 12 $125 LGS find, the long barrel had a noticeable dent just beyond where it's now chopped.  Many hours of cleaning and rubbing oil got it to respectable shape.  It literally had mud all over it on the LGS rack sitting next to a clean and shiny much more expensive Model 12.

Picked this up at an auction.  Could be a candidate for riot style conversion.

Savage Automatic (Model 720).  Based on the serial number, I'm guessing mid 1930s production.

$125.00 for model 12! Nice score. That's the kind of project I look out for.
You did a great job cleaning it up

Sounds like a score! Couple things to be careful of with old(er) Ithaca Model 37s... be mindful that the wood is intact; good buttstocks to be used as replacements can be expensive and difficult to come by. On a gun like you have, the barrel should be serial numbered to the receiver, if it's not, have a competent gunsmith check it out. The older guns all had receivers with matching serial numbered barrels. Lastly, any pitting in the thin M37 barrels can be bad news, the guns are just about bombproof, but the barrels are so thin any amount of pitting can be bad.

As for "trench guns" the Ithaca M37 trench guns all had 20-inch barrels. Just me, but a 1948 gun would be perfect for something someone might have taken to Korea with them. I'd send it to GunCat at Rose Action Sports and have him give it a professional cut/crown and new bead. Thats just me though.

Pic thread...

Guys,

I'm working on another Stevens 77 riot gun.  From your old projects, do any of you have a left over buttpad?... the "correct" orange type with the "T" slots?  Or... do you know where I can find one?  I've done a lot of searching, but had no luck.

I hope to post some pics soon of a couple of neat retro shotgun projects I've been working on.

Thanks!
John Thomas

I would keep an eye on eBay.  The stocks show up occasionally including this one that sold a couple weeks ago for $76 (#111765829482).  I didn't think that was too bad a deal but didn't need a spare.  I have never found a source for just the butt pads alone.
