My GAU-5/P 654 clone.  Tips the scales at 6.0 pounds with an empty 20 round magazine.

Kydex paddle, pinned stock, and muzzle break make it Commiefornia legal.....

Finally got ahold of Bill. He's making one up for my XN-23 build :)

Current state

Just waiting on the guards. And some waffle mags.

Fresh pic of my XM177E2 because I also cloned a SEAL issue Model 15 (changed the stocks from no-diamond to diamond).

The older I get, the more I love classic.  I own ARs with bells and whistles, and plastic pistols.  But my favorites remain ARs with carry handles and pistols of steel and wood.  I consider the classics as "industrial art".

RoosterX19, your XN-23 build is Straight up, Bad Ass! What is the barrel length and what kind of handguards are those?

The barrel length is 7.5" from Model 1, and the handguard is a 1 piece aluminum jobby from them as well. It's ok, but takes away from the early style that I'm going for. Thanks to a fellow ARF member, I'm having a set of shorty triangle guards made up to complete the retro look and feel.

Oh, and thanks!

Each guy was still issued a stainless model 686 in the early 90's when I first got to the Teams.  Thank God they got rid of them!  The intention was that they were stainless and more resistant to corrosion.

Down side was the geniuses in charge of acquisitions had no idea the level of asspain cleaning them was after being submerged in salt water (think side-plate removal for 16 Frogs just to get back in the water on a dive the next night) was compared to just rinsing and cleaning a P226.

More progress. Looking forward to the shorty triangle handguard when it shows up. I'm digging the whole setup, but the non pencil barrel is kind of like a barb. Unless somebody can "justify" a good reason why a hypothetical weapon from the 60's would have a heavy barrel, I'd like to hear it. My OCD will most likely make me have it lathed to the thinner pencil barrel diameter.

Also looking for a magazine pouch like the lower pic. Any info where I can get one would be greatly appreciated!

We carried those with the sling reversed as it made less noise in the wild.

I was using a cargo strap until the 550 cord melted through...

I've seen pics of the sling slung both ways, so I just picked one.  This is the first time I've heard that there was a reason to put it backwards; neat!

Of course, it's plenty quiet enough for the range and my safe as is...  "The wild" is not very wild at my advanced age.

Commando, CH upper converted... lower and barrel is my creation. The stock/tube/hardware was slick/rusty so I used parts that were similar, I just buffed the rust off. Trigger group in this one is spikes w/colt sp1 selector.

real 1990s hours bushmaster XM15

not exactly finished but its functional, waiting for the hardware store to get more krylon camo in stock and looking around for a vintage maglite or dive light to hose clamp to the handguard

My XM177ish carbine.  Love this thing.  So light and handy, I thought my 602 clone was light and handy but this is even better even though they are within a quarter pound of each other in weight.  May swap to a pencil profile barrel later to shave off even more weight.  It's kind of become my go to truck gun and I find excuses to run to the range to drop a mag or three though it.  I went with the triangle handguards because I like the feel of them over the round guards.

It's a 605. Many of them had the forward assist hump milled off before finishing the upper.

Ah, I was inspired by some vietnam era xm177s and LAV's Car15 so I built a very late 80s early 90s sorta build.

Correct.

It has to be broken down to fit in the bag. From what I understand the 10" XM177 will fit in without having to be broken down.
I can leave the optic on and mag in, but the receivers do have to be separated.

Hail and well met, good sir!

Switched out the H&R M16A1 lower I was using for a correct H&R XM177E2 lower. Also changed out the M1 sling for a GP strap. Took the retro off, and I'm thinking about using an OEG on there.
