Looks good. It is actually closer to a 723. Just overlook the heavy barrel. They are very KISS. I have the same with an M4 barrel.

Thanks, I guess it's more of a frankengun (like I said, assembled out of whatever I could find) but I figured it was at least semi-retro. When I have more money I want to build something nice, maybe a clone XM177 or 607. There's a guy selling faux 605 uppers but I have a feeling that by the time I have the money he'll be sold out

I love your GAU-5A/A. Mine is identical, except I silver soldered a grenade ring on the base of my slip over flash hider.. I had to drill it out so it would slip over like the rest of the flash hider.

I will be doing the exact same thing, along with having it converted into a muzzle brake for NJ legality, may even have the barrel chopped down a little shorter as well since it has to be permanently attached to comply with this state's law.

I need a twelve step program or another place to stay. I got an email alert this morning and I couldn't say no. It was dirty on the inside but tight :-)

Post pics later. I think it was made in 1980 and it still has the colt black paint in the staked lock ring and the bolt carrier release roll pin.

All of the oil in it had hardened and turned to shellac. Leaving a gooey reddish film on everything and it didn't want to come off. Soaked bcg, buffer, and spring in clp and used a brush, and a lot of elbo grease, to scrub it off. I hate it when people don't clean their weapons and then let them sit up for 30 years, it makes a hell of a mess. On the bright side, no rust, and only some light scratches. Now I just need to go shoot it and blow the dust out of the gas tube ;-)

I bet if you had just sprayed some CLP in there and shot it, the heat would have softened up and possibly just cooked off the old oil build up but either way, you did the right thing cleaning it FIRST.

What length does that barrel end up at with the FH? Was comparing to 14.5" midlength setups and couldn't quite figure it out.

XM-16E1 look alike, with a Chinese AK for an 'in-country' feel on my kitchen floor. Nodak 603 upper with XM16E1 lower, NDS charging handle, Colt barrel assembly, buttstock assembly, upper parts, BCG, PG and HGs, and DPMS LPK with a few retro parts (selector, trigger guard and mag release button).
