I seems to me that the A2 with the elevation would cost more. I'm just getting into the retro thing, since I'm burned out on all of the hi-tec late model builds.

Thanks!

Hope this is the right place. Just got a set of "good" handguards from U.S. Collectors Ordinance. I would not grade them as "good". I would grade them at least "damn fine". Quick (2 week) delivery and excellent product, at a fair price. Thanks, Dave.

I just ordered a C7 upper from JSE online. They responded to my email questions and I received the receiver in 4 days. They were great.

SARCO has free shipping for Memorial Day weekend. Their M16A1 kit with barrel for $465.00 shipped is very tempting:

Im not sure this is the right section for this but, I have a registered full auto original Colt 1980 SP1244xx. I inherited it from my Dad and I'm trying to keep it all original.Im being told the disconnector is bad and there recommending replacing the hole group,To not take a chance of hurting the lower$$.I need some advice on the group?

That looks so pristine, I have a hard time believing that anything is bad in it. Looks like it hasn't seen 200 rounds.. Don't do anything with it till you have someone you can trust to look at it. Who told you something is wrong?

It hasent had many rounds,I still have the green bags of ball ammo that came with the rifle new,Dad didnt shoot it much,I have put 240 rounds thru it since I got it.The prob is the disconnector is not catching the hammer,On single shot/fire when ya pull the trigger and then release it it fires again ,sometimes, like bump firing.Atleast thats what there telling me that its bad.Im new to all this and am just starting to learn
Thanks
Rob

It may be a bad disconnector spring, or it may be in upside down. Changes are slim and none that the diconnector itself id out. Get a new spring. Also check hammer and trigger spring installation.

I think the disconnector tip in the picks is worn or chiped off making it fire when you let off the trigger after firing a round?

The gun has run fine,it just started doing this,so Im thinking its a park failure, not a instalation prob, but I will ck it out also,
Thanks
Rob

Are you sure that it's a factory select-fire? Without looking at the other side of the receiver, it could be an SP1 that was converted by a talented SOT after the lower was registered w/ATF.

One could buy factory full-auto M-16A1's from dealers back then, but I can imagine the premium over a converted SP1 was substantial, otherwise you wouldn't see very many converted SP1's.

Going with the "converted SP1", it's also very possible that a "filched from an arms room discards bin" well-used M-16 FCG was put in the rifle, hence the issues you're seeing even though the rifle itself has barely had 10 mags through it.

Any competent SOT can service the rifle without damaging the lower.

I guess it is considered a converted sp1.Its by Hard Times Armory, not sure what fcg they used,Im told I can buy a new Colt auto fcg,or just the fullauto disconnector, I also was told i need to set the timing when setting it up.Im still looking for someone locall I can trust help me with it,as you can tell i havent been in a hurry, now boating season is over we will get back into shooting

Thanks

SOT: Special Occupation Taxpayer/Special Occupational Tax. (or something similar).

Essentially an SOT can deal in and make machineguns.

Totally forgot I had posted in this thread...

Where are you guys buying decent quality teardrop forward assists? My 603 upper has a round unit and I'd really like a teardrop.
Clint

Edit: I found one on GB.

+1 for innovative industries

I ordered a A1 rear sight and it came missing the flat spring. He sent me 2 of them along with a AR15 sight tool.

For anyone doing a retro build or new to retro try John Thomas to get your work done. He can anodize aluminum parts of all type in various colors. He can park other parts. If you are building an early model and want your furniture correct he can paint it the 601 green or the brown speckled color of very early parts. He can add dimples to parts and modify a 604 upper to 601 style. The really big thing is his prices are great and I have gotten every thing I have sent him back, completed in less than 2 weeks. You can get more information and contact him at jntmjt1@yahoo.com

Does anyone have a source for slick side bolt carriers, other than an old sp1 colt? It looks like Young Manufacturing used to make them, but I haven't found any for sale.

Friend of mine has an A1 upper half. I was thinking of a retro build, but I'm too deep into other projects atm. Anyone interested?
