I dig the wood stocks. I looked over their page and as you stated they are not on there yet. Would you mind letting me know what the set was? Also did it come finished or did you finish it your self? Buttplate included? etc. Thanks!

Lowers are often available from guys like me who are updating SP1's to M16A1 Clones.  The Sp1s have the advantage of using the small fire control group pins so FCG parts arent hard to come by.

Sadly, I have updated my particular guns but there are probably plenty of folks in Canada whho are looking to do the same as me, so keep your eyes open on your boards up there, you'll find one sooner or later.

Good luck on your future retro projects!!!!

Such a pitty to see such a beautiful rifle tanted by that hideous pistol grip... If you cant afford the A1 grip I will pitch in $0.75 to the cause. 6 more pepole with the same donation and we can get it for you. I feel it is the least we can do for that rifle....

j/k dude, I like the rifle alot. I would change the PG tho but that is just me.

Does anyone have or know of a guide on how to build a stripped A1 upper for future reference? (rear sight, forward assist, ejection port cover) I think I know how to assemble to ejection port cover and the forward assist but the rear sight is still a mystery. I guess I dont really need to know now but I'd just like to have a guide handy for when I am ready so I can get it all put together right away.

Here are my two retros. I am home on leave and got the A1 together the upper needs to be finished to match the lower . The other is a GUU/5P clone colt upper colt M4 barrel , colt two position stock  I am waiting on a A1 PG for it and an LPK. No refinish will be required on that one as they upper and lower match well. Before anyone says something I know the phantom is not correct but I need it for legality and I do have a machinist friend making me some extended A1 FH's . Anyhoo I want to thank another member for selling me the A1 20inch upper I owe you a big one, you know who you are. I hope to have the GUU done before I go back to Iraq.

Here's a schematic.  Brownells sells the complete A1 rear site assembly made by DPMS.  Use a small punch in the drum to hold it all together.  Slowly drive in the pin (#33) while driving out the punch on the other side.  Hope that helps.

Cavalry Arms C1 Trapdoor Buttstock

Try the above stock for a new production A1 length trapdoor buttstock.

ETA:  The Cavalry Arms C1 stock isn't an accurate reproduction of the A1....but unless you're a puritan....give it a try.

I have a ? regarding Dog1's builds, I looked thru the entire thread, and did'nt find anything..

What did you do to the SP1 lower to simulate a auto sear pin?

It's a Colt sear block pin that just happens to be almost in the same spot as a happy switch pin..

I believe it's a Colt sear block (so you can not put a DIAS in or convert it to use a regular auto sear). I might be wrong though.

I just want to tell you guys looking for a nice M16 stock set to contact USAF-K9 over on the EE. I just received mine and I was VERY happy. I expected them to be at least a LITTLE beat up -DANG but they are purty! A1 HGs, buttstock and PG for $25 shipped! How can you go wrong? He's a busy guy, so be patient, but I would HIGHLY recommend one of his stock sets to anyone. I am extremely happy with mine!

Does anyone have a source for early port doors?  I'm looking for some that will basically lie parrallel to my slickside lower and not out at an angle like the current ones.  Condition isn't that important since I'll be mangling it to fit my 9mm.

HA HA HA .......... Made you look! come on and fess up. How many of you looked and saw that this thread final had an update since 11-23-06 and just had to check it out, huh?

Well, now if you read this far, hear is a little tidbit for you. Go to www.billricca.com and click his link to his barrel and goodies page. Most of his items are M1, M1 carbine and 03 Springfield related, but at the bottom of the page, he has some old stock new in wrap M16A1 pistol grips for $10.00 each. The kicker is he requires a $20.00 minimum order, so buy 2. I ordered one today along with some 03 parts.

Now, if I can just find those early M16 lower parts.
