MKay, I took the plunge.
I was kind of disappointed at the look of my clone (lower, basically) and just went and bid on an actual SP1.

Enough is enough (couldn't find a proper lower, all the colors seemed off etc. etc.).

These are the seller's images, reproduced here with permission (and gun already paid for). Waiting on shipping AND 10 days background check to clear. New photos soon.

Since I live in California, I had to reject shipment of that SP1 up there and get a refund. It's banned by name here in California. I didn't know that when I purchased it. I freaked out when I came to know what the outcome of this could have been. That stuff simply can't enter California.

So got a refund and got me this. I was real sad, now no more. A full Nodak Spud brand new upper and lower, model 601 (non-trap door).

This is at least legal (and between us, it looks great - hopefully it'll shoot great, too; 10 days background check started today).

Ah yes.

This one looks allot less dangerous than that first evil looking Black Demon rifle.

How can you guys put up with that kind of crap???

Nice rifle though.

I'll tell you the truth. I came a year ago from Italy, and it was very different there.

Wasn't expecting this much of regulation here. It's "worse" than it was in Italy, for absurd it may sound.

But there wasn't a firearm "banned by name" there. Never heard of this, it was the first time for me.

I am not sure of what to think. Better not to think much of this. I wouldn't want to sound like I am complaining, as it's too soon for me. Just got here, though I was born here a long time ago, I haven't grown up here.

I won't complain, I will just enjoy what I can

You seem like a good guy, with a good attitude, however since you ARE an American, and there are things that can and should be done.
Some won't even consider doing anything .... and that's really sad.
It's your right to complain, and the situation out there is totally unacceptable.  No way I could live like that.
Anyway, under the circumstances, I guess you're lucky to own that nice rifle.
Good luck.

Thanks brother.

I know exactly what you mean and how.

It's just too soon for me to start complaining. I don't think I've earned it, if that makes sense to you: I need to be here (and I want to die here, just like I was born here, Dallas, TX class '68) longer than just a year to earn my right to complain about things.

If I did it earlier - I feel - I would be just like one of those one-too-many pussies that open their mouths at any chance to speak bad about this country (or state, or city, ... ).

I want to be different. I want to be a classic American like the ones I have dreamed about when I was just a kid, dreaming about America (the USA) from Italy.

That's what I have in mind.

Work in progress.

Be well,

Fil (Phil)

I'd be tempted to do 2-3 603s or 604s showing the evolution of the rifle if I had that lineage of barrels. Early/Mid/Late would be pretty cool to have side by side IMO.

I was enjoying all the great builds in this thread and it reminded me to share. I have built quite a few retro's that I have enjoyed without posting any pictures. Mostly 603's, but a couple 604's. I put this 604 together today with spare parts I had left over from other builds. It has a black lower parts kit in it for now.

Thanks.

My 605 I have been working on will soon be complete as well. Right now, the upper is done. Still waiting on the lower from NDS. I have it on my XM16E1 lower for now so that I can make sure the upper functions just fine. I hope to check that any day now.

Old and New....

My Colt SP1. I still call it a Pre-Ban even though the meaning is useless these days. A lot of younger shooters look at me all confused when I say that but my friends all understand.

Very nice!
I have a "ban era" Colt A2. I know what your talking about. I think the only thing that lower is good for
Is showing the " younger shooters" how bad it was and how bad it can get.

Or how bad it already is in certain states, namely, California (and not the only one either).

The SP1 is banned here. Banned by name.

Hambrabai,  Those Old Palmetto Armory Lower Receiver's are some very nice Early Milled ones that I think were produced by SGW.

I had one back around '85 or '86, can't remember, but it was a great receiver, and I wish I still had it.
