Shiver me timbers. That pic brings back a lot of memories of the year I spent playing army in Alaska, and somewhat unpleasant ones I might add. Goddamighty was it cold. You haven't lived til you've humped a ruck in deep snow, dragging one of those damn akio sleds behind you, at 30 or 40 below. Eff that. Them of you what has done it, know what I'm talking about.

I'm with you brother. I know how to survive in cold temps, but I hate it - particularly as my bones are getting older. I feel cold here in Phoenix lately! I'm over it. Thinking about moving to Peru.

The BudK Vietnam Fighter is the cheapest and easiest way to get a MACV SOG type blade. The blade of the BudK knife is not ground correctly, it's kinda like a combination of all three CISO 6" blade variations. And the leather washer handle is not exactly correct, and the washers widen towards the hilt. This is easily fixed, though.

http://i950.photobucket.com/albums/ad346/TexasPistols/photo-14.jpg

I hand profile the BudK blade to either the Type II or Type III blade grind. I obviously can't grind the blade to a Type I, since the ricasso is much larger and longer.

M7 bayonet, BudK modified to Type III (still needs work), and BudK modified to Type II.

The SOG brand SOG Bowie 2.0 is a Type I bald type, and a great knife.

SOG Bowie 2.0 on top, BudK modified to Type III on bottom. Both sheaths are SOG brand sheaths for the Bowie 2.0, but I added rivets to both, and antiqued one.

I converted the DPMS lower. Barrel is Colt 1/12 C MP B marked. LRPK is DPMS, selector is modified M16A1.

My sweet, sweet little early SP1. Its only about 360 digits shy of being a three digit serial number. From the material I found on this website I believe it to be from 64'

Anyways, enjoy:

That is really nice. In your pictures the bolt catch and take down pin look dark (darker than the selector and mag catch). Do they look darker in real life? Do you know that those parts are original to the rifle?

Yeah its just the picture. Everything is stock and in person they don't look so dark. I had a clamp on bipod too but must have misplaced it somewhere as I couldn't find it during the pictures.

I've had this rifle for a long time and had no idea how much it was worth until recently..... Gotta love this site.

Alright lads...feast your eyes on this AR-15.

It has the very first style of furniture for the M-16 A-1s. The original olive drab green furniture manufactured by Matel. These very grips were in fact made by Matel.

Notice the stainless steel bolt and the lack of any forward assist

Not the easiest to see in this picture but it has the 3 prong flash suppressor

Just another angle

Just having fun photographing this beautiful gun

This even a colt.

Now the furniture isn't original to this receiver. The furniture did come from one of the earliest m-16's. It had a 3 digit serial number that was somewhere in the mid 200's. There is no way this gun is for sale...just out of curiosity, what would any of you be willing to pay for it?

Been meaning to post these for a while now. I finished this build a few months ago. Rifle is made from a Colt kit (gunthings.com) and an NDS lower.

@ Shawnmt6601: Foul language in the tech threads?...

@ Gunther1687: It's spelled "Mattel", with two t's, & as Shawn has pointed out - they had nothing to do with manufacturing your furniture. Also, There is a separate thread for posting appraisal requests:

That's a hell of a bunker and range you got there. Damn. Nice rifle too.

Thanks for the kind words, piecing the kit together was real fun. I wish I could claim the bunker/range as my own, but it is a local gun range near my parents in GA.
