Almost looks like someone was putting together an M231 and a 607 in the dark and got the pieces confused.

Just kidding, looks great man.

Mmmm...yummmmy....what kinda lower is that?

Looks like a Colt, unless my eyes are playing tricks on me. Notice the prancing Pony and early style rollpin retainer for the receiver extension.

No, I meant what kind of Colt lower is that. Sorry. Is it an original XM16 lower?

I think I paid around 525.00 for it complete with b/bc/ch.  Looks like CMMG took their lightweight bbl/upper off their website.  If they discontinued it, I sure am glad I got one.  I would call them to verify whether or not it is discontinued.

They discontinued the profile you have, but are replacing it with a barrel that is lightweight the entire length, no fat section under the FSB.

To: Story & Undertaker

I paid $175.00 for the 3-piece Ironwood Designs walnut set about 8 months ago.  It was from Matt's first production run.  Not sure what the going price is now.  Email Matt for current pricing.  Don't know why he hasn't updated his site to include the AR and CAR stock sets.

It is a Colt A1 upper and LMT 10.5" barrel that I threaded all the way to the Front Sight Assy. The moderatr (BM) then threads all the way to the FSP hiding the original threads inside the moderator. That way I still have the original barrel length and gas port size. I also milled M4 extensions into the upper to match the M4 barrel extensions for added reliability in full-auto. I replaced the round A2 forward assist with a tear drop style and the added the straight D-ring assy. My last step will be machining wrench flats into the moderator.

Although not historically correct, it is a blast to shoot on full-auto. Now i just need to work on either a M16A1 lower or a modified SBR "retro" lower.

1970's M16A1 look right to me with matte black furniture, trap door buttstock, silent sling, and a 30 rounder.  You know, like AKARS.  Like ones I have been issued.  He needs a sling though, and something don't look right with that mag, like it is painted?

Just the same, I like 1960's M16A1's with deep black furniture, non trap door buttstock, green sling, and 20 rounders.  A different look.

Guess I need to shoot pictures of my two completed ones side by side.

I was active duty Army '82 to'85. All I remember using was 30rd mags in our M16A1's. Maybe it looks strange is because that it was during "peace time" so what we were carrying wasn't on the evening news like during Vietnam or the Gulf conflicts.

The A1, to me, is the Vietnam era gun....I've always seen it on the news reels from that era with the 20rd mags. Never saw it much with 30rders.

yes, was going for the late '70s early '80s era look... just trying to match the CDNN takeoffs.

the mag is a new NHMTG USGI 30 rounder and has not been painted.  the rifle is brand new, never fired, so i went with a new mag too..  have to learn how to refinish the older mags that i have here.. but can't seem to find "PermaSlik-G".

as for the 30 rounders.. i sure thought they looked cool on the A1s back in the '80s.. lol

So what'd we use between the early 70's and the mid 80's?

Some new pics I took today.

My small collection of retro firearms.
M16A1 clone
Savage Model 110L 30-06 SN in the 26XXX
Star Model B 9mm
Ruger Mark I from the 80s

Typically the Savage has a Leupold Rifleman on it but I am thinking about trying to put tangent leaf sights like the springfield 1903.

Yeah! I got a bayonet!

This one is interesting. It is a cheap weaver rail I bought off the internet but the scope is a Weaver of El Paso V8. The scope actually came with the Savage and is in very good condition. I havent actually tried the scope out yet on the rifle but I just really like the crosshairs.
