i have both. i have heard  of lots of people going with TAP. But i have heard of legit partoes using 64gr Ranger. i think Eric Holders Ex Protection guys use that. iso any ideas.

Definitely use a soft point not a BTHP in that barrel length.

64gr PP or honestly 55gr SP would be better.  I use the Hornady.

No problem.  I have personally chronoed 55gr .223 at 2300 FPS from a nitride 7".  5.56 spec 75gr BTHP was about 2000fps.

Here's a few videos. Not mine.

Fiocchi 223 SP in 55g (AR-15 pistol with 7.5in. barrel)


Winchester Ranger 556 64g Sp (RA556B) from 7.5 in. barrel


The 75gr will still yaw etc at those speeds but is considerably below its frag threshold even at the muzzle.
