Lol! Yeah, I did a takedown after shooting and didn't put the scope back into place before snapping pics.

Why even bother to put a scope on it? I thought stormtroopers couldnt hit anything anyways.

I think he was referring to the scope mount being backwards. Looks good regardless. View Quote The scope is not mounted backwards. It's a Nikon pistol scope and I assure you it is mounted correctly and is wonderfully easy to acquire a target with. It is extended eye relief mounted rearward and sights somewhat like a reflex sight. This pistol is not set up as a cheek shooter. |

Easy there -- look at the last photo compared to your photo. One of these things is not like the others. No biggie. Nice build!

The scope is fine, but the mount is backwards. Most people use the "offset" of the mount to move the scope farther forward, but if it works for you like this, it works!

I was expecting it to have holes machined into it all over.
Movie had so many plot holes. |

You have made my day. My friends and I have been talking about this Beverly idea for too long. As many pics and details as you're willing to share would be appreciated.
I really was thinking about doing a rattle can white. Why do you say you would have a pro do cerekote? Personally the white flaking off is kinda what I want it to look like. |

Everyone is always quick to say how Nikon scope mounts are backwards.
The mounts themselves clearly say in the packaging that they are meant to be able to be mounted both directions, and for certain scopes and guns one direction will work better than the other. When I put the 3X carbine scope on my first ar15, I had the p-mounts. One was "forward" and the other was "backward" (as it said you may do in the directions), and it allowed me to place the scope perfectly. |
|
[#25]
Actually now that I go back and look (have since replaced the scope), both mounts were "backwards".
But it was a short scope and by doing so I got perfect placement on my rifle, and the mounts are clearly designed to be used in that way if needed. It sucks because of the internet snobs, every time I posted a photo I had to toss out that disclaimer. And here we are with a cool stormtrooper photo and right away people have to get snobby about his scope mounts... lol http://www.defeatingpropaganda.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/first-ar-nikon-scope.jpg |

View Quote One of the comments said the scope itself was mounted backwards which is what I was addressing. A cantilevered scope mount, like the Primary Arms I have on this gun, does not have a right or wrong way. Most rifle applications will set it forward but, in my case, I needed it moved back past the rear of the rail. |

That is a super-cool looking set up and I bet you put a lot of work into making that look so damn good. I am really impressed by the pistol and everything you did and especially, the idea behind it.
Do you shoot it, or is it mainly for display so as not to scratch or chip the finish? I would be afraid to damage that cool looking weapon. You said you don't use the cheek weld, how do you shoot it? |

I really was thinking about doing a rattle can white. Why do you say you would have a pro do cerekote? Personally the white flaking off is kinda what I want it to look like. View Quote The white Durakote did not cover well like the black Durakote does. The white was also runny compared to the black. Durakote goes on thicker than Cerakote and is not as strong (though stronger than rattle can paint). Both Durakote and Cerakote are epoxy finishes but Cerakote, when done professionally, gets baked on and is much more durable. If you want a gun with that used look, rattle can is probably ok to use. You could spray it then weather it, either by strategic light sanding or dry brushing acrylic paint to achieve the look. I prefer the painted wear method - you can also add grime by layering different shades of brown/red/gray/etc. Water the acrylic paint down, spray it on and then wipe it off, leaving "grime" in the crevices. Looks very legit. That's how the Hollywood pros weather props. And acrylic hobby paint is dirt cheap at Walmart (pun intended). |

View Quote Thanks for the kinds words I do shoot it and it is my favorite gun to shoot right now because it's just so unique and fun. It's so much easier to shoot accurately than I thought an AR pistol would be. That Nikon scope is sweet. I shoot it with my left hand on the mag well. I'd say my arms are 3/4 extended to get the right eye relief. It's light enough that it's a fairly stable way to shoot it. I think if I was wearing stormtrooper armor it would look like the correct shooting form :) Regarding the paint finish, the casing deflector is the first thing to get dinged of course. I may at some point have the white finishes redone professionally. The black First Order symbol on the mag well is a vinyl decal that a guy on etsy made to order for me - 3 for $4. Easily replaced. I also have a live fire E-11 stormtrooper blaster that I built prior to this and it was so much fun to build I just had to do another project like that. https://kqlfeg-bn1305.files.1drv.com/y3mqZ6j_H9ewLC4sqhAnTFPVlaKAq-VoEbNZY3cImH_jYJOcbqmUur83T5DOYj2JP5CRLWipGBVPm1pdrCN4Y5rv_pp9ukSnELy5l4xPVVjgW9oo0QfziW6XAsEHnWD7y93qPTR3w4T0gTw0Jwn-SHNspc3dELdiF6Mnp1Og4enUH0?width=3264&height=2448&cropmode=none https://qdrinq-bn1305.files.1drv.com/y3mlBBgIAl6AhjKDu4ORTzn__WfgFYJOjWjAhiTLyPzfT8wFGYNDSNNvQr6jpd5VgeQYAYk0KQFej7Gh-za8xvX0a9Agb5DHqymK3-8Hx4skbGTil7aZLNkE4iKdQz906B_yNTkXwHG63Qy_u3dvYDTHHWbD9jObz9MGrDE5A3uXo4?width=3264&height=2448&cropmode=none |
