I tried to search, but it doesn't let me search more than a month into the past so I apologize if this is a topic thats been brought up before! I have read a few mixed pieces of information as far as vertical foregrips on AR pistols. Some say you can't do it, but others say you can if the whole weapon is a certain length. Is this true? If so what is the length of the weapon and where do you measure it from? Thanks!

If you have a pistol that has an overall length greater than 26 inches, and you attach a VFG to it, it becomes re-classified into a "firearm" under federal law, which is NOT an NFA item.  This is the same misc. catch-all definition that pistol-grip-only shotguns also fit into.

The overall length on an AR pistol is measured from the rear-most end of the receiver extension to the end of the muzzle of the barrel.  The muzzle device does NOT count unless it is permanently attached.
