Subsonic ammo galore = .45
Ammo Cost = 9mm

Modifications for build? None that I know of for 9mm. Not sure about .45

I already have a HK .45 Tactical
AAC TiRant .45 suppressor

HK VP9 with a threaded barrel
9mm piston for AAC TiRant
Springfield Armory XD9

Can use my suppressor on either until I buy a designated one.

Would love any input or education on this.

I think a 10mm would be a better choice (other than the cost of ammo).

9mm is the most practical choice.

I have an Olympic .45 upper on an old Cavalry Arms MKII lower.

This works well, but grease gun magazines have gone up in price since I built it.

So, today, I would go with 9mm.

1: 10mm is a great round. Wish it would have caught on a little better.
2:,Thanks for the advice from your experience with your .45 and suggesting the 9mm

If you plan on shooting it a lot and the cost of ammunition is a concern, no reason not to go with 9mm, right?

9.

Just ask ARFCOM:  9m >> 45 (and everything else).

No reason not to go 9.

I'm a huge 45 fan (1911) but other than Olympic arms where are you going to get 45acp ar15 parts and mags? Where as you can get ETS 31 round mags for about $10 from PSA ($210 for 10 boxes of ammo and 10 mags, about $10 each I figure).

There was a thread here a few days ago that asked 45 vs 300blk and the consesus was 300 BLK was the way to go even amoung those that own a 45 ACP. So give the 45 vs 9mm. I would probably have to side with 9mm. Unless you want to shoot subs then I think 300blk is a better option as you also have supers to choose from. I went 300blk quite a while ago.

40S&W.

It has plenty more power than 9mm, yet the same velocity. It has as much ft/lb force as 45ACP past like 20yd, yet holds a decent trajectory. Also, little capacity loss over 9mm.

40S&W is about 3-4 cents more than 9mm per round (for same type, same brand), making it quite a bit cheaper than 45ACP.

Soooo much cheaper than 10mm.

ETA: But either way, you will be the undergunned guy on the team. As in, doomsday, you'll need to roll with something that won't make you near ineffective. No cost, weight, etc benefit over a 5.56 SBR. Proprietary parts, maybe mags, low powered rounds for the weight/size of the gun, etc.

Try to figure out if it's something you really want or need; or if it's just the Good Idea Fairy paying you a visit.

I wanted an AR in 45 acp for a long time.

Back in the day there were few choices in 45 uppers and lowers.

I ended up with a CNC SBRed lower and a modified integrally suppressed Oly upper.

There are a couple folks making DI uppers now and from what I hear they run great.

I love the sound of 230gr bullets ringing steel.

Plus this set up has been near 100% reliable. The only failures I have ever had were related to the Uzi mags I used with a standard lower.

OP have you had a chance to try out ARs in both?

If you are anywhere near Chattanooga, you are welcome to try my AR45

45 Win Mag.

Here's why: It's one of the best defensive rounds you can fire from a short barrel rifle in terms of energy on target.

The brass can easily be made from 308 Winchester or 30-06 cases.

Ammunition is available at the big outdoor/hunting stores, and well stocked gun stores.

It's easy to reload.

It suppresses well.

Shotshells made for the 45 Win Mag are effective.

It will humanely take a white tail deer at 150 yards with a single chest shot.

It's more of a good thing.

Look up the 3Ten carbine.
