I know this has probably been cover. But I was thinking of buying a 7" barreled upper.  Does anyone run a barrel this short?  Are there any problems with a barrel this short?    It would be a range toy and if reliable would sit next to the bed on occasion.

Let me know what you guys think?  Or if there is anything with a barrel this short that I haven't thought of.

Thanks guys.

i have a 8.5" in 300 black out
its fine, not as accurate at long range as a longer barrel and butt stock.but sure is fun to shoot and turns heads when at the range

just a range toy for me as i have other weapons that are more suitable for home defense

I have a 7 inch 556.

It's fine. Don't expect tight 100 yard groups, but I can hit 24 inch plates 7 out of 10 times at 200.

It throws 5 foot flames too

Just finished my second and am looking to put a flaming pig on this one.

I just put together a 7.5" 5.56 pistol, no issues so far (200 rounds, carbine buffer) and it's a ton of fun to shoot.

I built 7.5" and 10.5" in 556, and by far prefer the 10.5.  The 7.5 jumps a lot, and frankly seems like a waste of gunpowder.  Terminal ballistics on a 7.5 556 aren't exactly great either.

I recently did a 8.5" in 300blk, and I'm now convinced that 300blk is the way to go for anything under 10".  I get the small size that I was looking for, it is more pleasant to shoot, and has better terminal ballistics.

Just my 2 cents.

I have a 7.5in Andro upper on my pistol.  I originally expected it to be "touchy" but it has proven to be awesomely reliable with all ammo!  I do have a kineti-tech brake and blast shield on it.

I built mine about 9 years ago and I am still happy with it. It has run flawlessly for thousands of rounds.

I made a defensive load for it with 45grTSX bullets, they get full expansion and penetrate 13" in gel at 15yds and group about 2moa at 50yds.

This is with some bulk crap plinking loads, good enough for what it is.

Do it, you'll like it !

I put together a 5.56 upper with a poly lower a few years ago and still runs great, got a spare aluminum lower just in case but
after thousands of rounds then thousands with a .22 conversion bolt still runs like a Timex

I liked it so much I built 7.62 with a real lower and it gets folks attention after one round.

PS I sure do miss those 550 valve packs of .22 LR

I thought 7.5 was the shortest 5.56?
I have a 7.5'' and Love it. No real problems with a 7.5'' other than loss of psi compared to longer barrels. Still plenty of power to drop anything an AR is meant to drop.
