Building an 11.5 inch pistol, with plans to suppress it in the future, just not sure when that will be. Would a Kak or similar flash can be a acceptable compromise @ $35. Basically looking something to make it less obnoxious to those around me. Will be mounting Midwest Industries SSM 10 and should provide plenty of clearance

It'll help a bit if shooting outside.  Inside, it just echoes back @ you.

Find out your rail inner diameter then you can either go with a regular kak flash can standard or slim

He will have plenty of room. 10'' handguard on an 11.5'' barrel.

OP - It'll work to make it less obnoxious outdoors. As said before - indoors, it will bounce right back at you.

Yup. Clearance shouldn't be an issue. Indoors I usually wear HLs and outdoors it's usually Surefire Sonic Defenders, I guess I will just double up indoors and try to avoid busy times. I'm working towards finding an outdoor range that will allow the type of shooting I would like to do with in a reasonable drive.

I have one on my 7.5" pistol. It's a little loud but not that serious. And that's at a small 25m indoor range. It'll be fine.

I have a slim line on my 7.5 inch X39 and it works awesome. Under muffs no real difference from my 16 223 with a BC on it. Don't shoot indoors.

KAK flash can is aluminum

The ones below are steel with Nitride finish

flash can 1

flash can 2

Note: go through Amazon versus Rousch website, that way one less company has your personal data.

no one has ever wore out an aluminum flash can..  why would you want all that weight out on the end of your barrel..

KAK can seems to hold up well despite being made of aluminum though. I haven't heard any real complaints about it. Steel is extra weight so keep that in mind.

How about using a BRT linear comp?

I was using a KAK can on an 8" barrel at first. But then i decided to just get a 10.5" barrel and use a flash hider/comp similar to an A2 profile. Sure it's about an inch longer over all. But the blast and ballistics are much better. The BRT Comp would probably shine on an 11.5" barrel

I like KAK's new micro slimline flash can...feels like it's about the same length & weight as an A2...looks great on a 7.5" barrel with 7" rail.

And it only costs 25 bucks.

Maybe eventually.
I'm moving back into Chicago for grad school, so it'll probably stay a pistol.

It's common to have a POI shift when changing from one muzzle device to another.

Sorry, not what I was getting at.
POI change while shooting it.

We tried one on a .22, which I put off as weight on the end of a light weight barrel.
But my buddy that shoots 3 gun had the same issue with a 5.56.

Rounds wouldn't group with it on but would with the can off.

Bbl harmonics?  How heavy is his bbl?  How long is his rail, and is the flash can touching?

I've seen KAK flash cans with ~1k rds on them that still look like new

Meanwhile, I've got a PWS FSC556 that has erosion on the tines after only 200 rds...

You couldn't do something like the KX or even most brake or FH designs in aluminum because those designs all port high pressure gasses.  The KAK can does none of this, it allow the gasses to expand, just gently directs the blast forward off its thick angled walls.  Do you understand?

I heard one guy say the kx3 was way better in terms of throwing concussion forward, but it is lots heavier, more expensive, and adds back pressure to the gas system, which could be good or bad depending g.

I have a 7.5" Melonite barreled upper with a standard A2 flash hider. I have a KAK Micro to replace the FH.
I was told that If I changed out the FH, to be sure to use a barrel vise.
The reason being, the Melonite is so slick, the removing of the FH may unscrew the barrel extension.
Has anyone had this problem?

Always clamp the barrel when removing or installing a muzzle device.

Mine is a Radical barrel and upper. I've had it for 2 months. Really not sure if it's the newer or old model.
It has the KeyMod handguard.

I had several thousand rounds through my KAK slimline, no erosion at all, still looks new on the inside. Aluminum is a heck of a lot lighter way out on the end of the barrel.

Yours would be a new barrel for awhile when they first started 2013ish, they barrel maker they were using was cutting corners and meloniting the barrels after the extension was installed, this has been fixed. That said if possible use barrel blocks or even scraps of wood to hold the barrel. If not possible then a clamp block or bev block device is acceptable.
