Is there anything special to it? Tried the vise and vise grips and it seems pretty tight. I've learned that when my next attempt is more force, there is usually a trick I don't know.

Any suggestions. There is no castle nut, tube looks direct thread into receiver. May try a little heat next.

Loc-tite was likely used on the threads of the tube, heat it up until you smell the sweet scent of it breaking down and then crank on it.  Still will likely take a good strap wrench or even a pipe wrench with your tube wrapped in leather or something similar.

Holy Fuck it was on tight. Didn't see any lock tite, but heated it up with a propane torch and used some channel locks and it finally came off.

Next question, how will I eventually need to compensate going from a pistol buffer tube to a rifle length once the sbr is approved? Longer spring? Spacer in tube to block it off to pistol length?

You're going A2 rifle stock? You'll of course need rifle tube, with rifle spring and buffer.

If you mean simple adjustable carbine tube and stock, they are the same as the "pistol" tube you already have.

I've  got an ace lightweight stock that uses a rifle length tube. I think I can do some  stock swapping  and get  an adjustable carbine stock off one off my other rifles. Thanks for answering the question. Didn't think to measure one of my other tubes
