I'm putting together a pistol upper for a range toy, it will be an 11.5" barrel and 10" BCM KMR, what muzzle devices would you recommend? I don't really want a KX3, KX5 or Barking Spider and would like to keep it under $100.

Whatever you choose to get, primary arms (site sponsor) has 15% off all brakes.
AAC comes to mind

Linear. Under 100, most in the 40-50 range:

Kaw valley
KAK
MAS defense
Kineti-tech (when used with the cover)
dpms levang
probably forgetting a few...

I have an 11.5" barrel (on my SBR) with an AAC Blackout. Works very well.  I've also used a YHM Phantom 5C2 that did a good job too.  I think either one will work for you and keep it below your price range.

If you guys were gonna recommend something over $100 what would it be? I have a Surefire brake on a 14.5" gun and love it, but it's not fun for others shooting next to me

That cookie cutter sure has my gears turning.  Looks alone get it moved  up on my personal consideration list.  That being said, I have their J-comp on my carbine and really like it.  IF you're looking for a good comp and muzzle brake combo consider looking at that.  http://www.strikeindustries.com/shop/index.php/rifle-accessories/ar/muzzle-device/japan-type89-comp.html   I'm thinking about trying mine on my 11.5" upper once I get it built...no way I'd put it on a 7,5" though.

How do the KIES or Kaw Valley compare to the Troy Claymore?

Look at Amazon for a GRG Krinkov.  Construction is very similar and nearly identical in size to the Flaming Pig.   It's about $40 currently.

It will likely arrive soaked in what appears to be dirty motor oil.

Asked the same a couple of months back.
Ended up with one of each;

KX3
AAC 51tooth Blackout FH
DD A2 FH

It all comes down to personal preference.

I really like the Noveske Flaming Pig, it tames the muzzle blast and directs the concussion and noise away from you. For short barreled pistols especially in 5.56 they tend to be very loud so I like all the help I can get in that area.

I'm in the same boat.  I've been looking at the Kuuma V2 (diameter 1.2") to go on a 7.5" barrel under an 8" SLR Solo hand guard (1.3" ID).  Wasn't able to find any Labor Day sales on the Kuuma.

Anyone running a BCM Comp on an 11.5" barrel? If so how is concussion for yourself and others around you? I know the Surefire 556BK on my 14.5" is a pleasure to shoot, but hell for those next to me.

I'm curious as to how the KAW deals with muzzle flash, if at all.

I'm putting together a 11.5" pistol so I'm trying to find the right muzzle device for me. i'm not sure whether good flash suppression or muzzle blast redirection is more important to me. I've never shot an SBR so I don't know how bad the blast is to the shooter.

I read a great post on vuurwapen blog comparing various muzzle devices so I know there is no free lunch here. If a muzzle devices does one thing well it tends to do the other things not so well.

I ended up ordered an Simple Threaded Devices (a.k.a. STD) for my 5.56 pistol build. It seems like it will do a good job at directing the muzzle blast forward which is what I'm concerned about most right now.

Thats funny, no way I'd pay for that, for now I'm going with an A2 to see how it works.
