So far I've only been able to find one place and they sell stripped 7.5" 7.62 barrels. What are my options for a cheap build?

Will that round burn most of the powder in that short of a barrel? I am going to build a pistol and was going with a 10.5 in 5.56. I could change my mind.

I'm not a doctor or anything but I think 7.62x39 out of a 7.5" barrel will have about the same muzzle energy as 5.56 out of a 10.5" barrel.

I based that off of the muzzle energy graph from ballistics by the inch for .223 caliber 55gr bullets out of a 10.5" barrel compared to the 124gr .357 magnum bullet out of a 7.5" barrel graph.

I know that is in no way scientific by any means, just an educated guess.

Someone please correct me if I'm way off.

with the KAK 8.0 inch pistol gas guys are reporting 2100 fps with the red army 123 grain so that's going to be more more than 556 i would imagine
not a 7.5 but pretty close

I'm not aware of any in 7.62x39 but you could definitely build one

I have an 11.5" YHM barrel. Carbine gas, and works well. I have ASC mags, and they work fine. I am going to try the new style C products and see how it does this week.  I will chrono several different steel cased ammo, from 122gr to 154 gr.
It has 1/2x36 threads, that limits muzzle devices, but there are several to choose from.
I have a troy 9" rail, I guess being an old fart, I prefer a little barrel showing.
sorry for the crappy phone pic
