I am in the process waiting for my paperwork to come through for making my receiver a SBR and I need your help.  I figured I would ask this here rather than in the SBR forum thinking you will have more information on really short AR barrels.  I want to build a really short AR in a PDW type configuration.

What type of issues and necessary fixes am I looking at with using the following barrel and stock combination?

I want to use a KAK Industries 8 inch 5.56 barrel and then use the LWRC Ultra Compact Weapon Stock.

I was thinking I may need to put an extra power extractor kit in the bolt and use a HeavyBuffers.com buffer and spring for the stock.

What are your thoughts on this combo?

Thanks,

T2

It will run as it is.  No special buffers or springs needed.  I run my UCIW stock on an 8" .300 blackout, 7.5" 7.62x39, 12.5" 6.8 and 10" suppressed 5.56 without issues.

Good news!  Glad to hear I should be OK.  I thought about .300 blackout but I just don't want to mess with another caliber.

I wouldn't bother with special buffers unless you want to run 5.7 or 9mm configurations.  It's always good to have an O ring available just in case your having extraction issues.  If you need one, PM me and I can mail you one.

I use the 5 coil extractor spring and a H2 on anything less than 10.5", YMMV...

The Ultra Compact Individual Weapon Stock uses it's own shorter buffer and flat wire spring to shave about an inch off of total length.  IIRC weight is around 3.2oz.

I have heard stories of anything under 10.5 inches being problematic so hearing that this is not the case is good news.  Now to decide on a 9 inch or 10 inch hand guard!

You should be fine with stock parts. I am running a 7.5" upper in 5.56. It does throw an awful lot of flame. I think 7.5" might be a little short, but it does look sweet. Currently waiting on an 8" 300 blk barrel I found for $100 here.  The 300 blk my buddy has does not throw out near as much flame.

You might also want to consider the Seekins 8" barrel
