I like Ar pistols and I'm thinking I need a Ar308 pistol, especially if I get around to buying a Sig pistol brace for it. Has anyone built a 308 Ar pistol? Source for a barrel other then buying a 16" and having it cut down, which is what Im looking at doing currently, it'll run me $180ish after the chop and rethread using a local 'smith.

I am going to watch this thread.

Been thinking of doing this myself.
You guys are not kidding when you talk about the BRD!

I ran my grubby little fingers all over this thing the other day but it was NOT an AR and it did not feel right to me.

I say go for it and then do a range report. Would love to see the results on a block of gel as well. Win. Ballistic Silvertips in .308 will flat tear some stuff up.

Custom job might be the way to go. Utility of a <16" is questionable, so the market is not huge.

I have heard good things regarding Rainier Arms barrels.

Also, Sig makes a factory .308 pistol WITH brace.

I have an unfired PTR .308 PDW I bought almost 2 years ago. Right after I bought it I talked to AAC about suppressing it and they said my 762SD wasnt warrantied for barrels shorter then 10.5" so I lost interest however I'm rounding up the parts to install a Sig brace on it currently. Have an ACE adapter, need a pignose for my pistol tube and a Sig brace

I really like the idea of doing a 338 federal pistol/SBR now that our state has allowed them.  Think it would be a great toy.  Would want to build it off the DPMS GII.

Ive been thinking about doing this too, just for shits and giggles. Unfortunately, its just been a blip in my mind as there are still a couple projects to finish first. But subscribed for when I get around to looking into this more.

I bought a Matrix Aerospace receiver set for $300, ( they make Ruger's) so mine's from the ground up. Thinking I'll buy an AIM NiB BCG and waiting to hear back on the 16" barrel if they offer it in melonite or not before I order one.

Hell maybe I should just buy 2 of everything and sell my PTR

I shot one this weekend even with the SIG brace the recoil is considerably more than an AR15. It almost seems uncomfortable but it doesn't mean I still don't want one.

You guys have me now thinking about a short FAL pistol with a Sig brace.

Check out an HK51 and you can get an idea of a 308 with a 8.5" barrel.

Keep this convo going! I want a PWS. MK212 pistol. On a different thread PWS responded that they would given the popularity of the SIG pistol arm brace if they thought there was a market for it. Otherwise I will just try to find a compatible lower receiver and just buy the mk212 upper to finish off my own PWS .308 pistol!

Ran into some issues in regard to gas tubes/handguards not working correctly with a DPMS pattern barrel and a Armalite pattern receiver. Troy TRX on clearance to the rescue. A little more dreml work inside the TRX and the AAC 762SD will fit freely, or I'll be chopping off an inch of the forend. Just need a buffer and spring, heavybuffers.com or standard DPMS, have to decide this week so I can get this up and running.

I was surprised to see that Noveske offers a 12.5" barrel...

I think I would go SBR before I went pistol.  Even with options like the Sig brace, to use it for anything more than a novelty I would like to have a proper stock on it.  Just my $0.02.  I'm curious to see what others come up with!

I swear I remember seeing a thread on here somewhere in the past couple months about a 308 pistol...

SBRs are nice if you can have them. They just recently changed the law here, goes into effect next week, and there's some poorly worded section regarding "licensed manufacturers" that isn't clear if Form1 builds will be allowed under state law.

This is as close as it'll get to being a SBR in the next 12 months I'm guessing.

I was looking at the McClane from KAK today as I shopped for the brace/buffer for my pistol built. I would love to build one I can deer hunt with. But for the cost I can't decide if I should go 308 or stick with a 6.8 or 300blk....have a few months to decide at least

300 blk is a cost effective killer for sure, esp if you handload.  the knockdown power and lack of recoil and report is a big plus.

but McClane could really lay down the law on some does in the right hands!
