Guys, just looking for feed back on barrel length choices. I am planning to complete my pistol build soon.  Was wondering if there are issues running the 7.5" upper vs a 10" upper.

Build both.  My wife's will be 10.5, and mine will be 7.5...

I built the 7.5 first.  Measured the gas hole and it was a standard size. Did not open it up. Had two FTE in 50 rnds, swapped to H2 buffer and have had ZERO issues with around 500 rnds downrange with tula ammo. Have shot xm199, only thing it did was eject at different location.
At 220 yds accuracy starts to suffer bad. Low and to the right. No more recoil than any other AR. Did not think the muzzle blast was bad, but only shot outside.
Used quality YM BCG. Not saying that any other BCG would not work. But chose parts wisely.
Then built the 11.5 over the 10.5. Main reason is the big gain in velocity just by adding that one inch.
Both are waiting on tax stamps to return. Once that happens, I will build another 7.5 pistol truck gun. I prefer it over a pistol caliber firearm, and my AK pistol.

All that said, I say go with the 7.5 first. If you dont like it  you can build a 10 or 11in upper, shot it and compare the two. Sell the one you dont like to recoup some funds.
But you know down deep what will happen. You will like them both.

6.75" Had to open up the gas port and it spits brass in a nice line but different distances. KAK FlashCan=PURE FUN.

7.5 takes alot of tweaking

10.5 pretty good out of the box

^---- Prefect advice!
I have two 7.5s and a 12.5. Love them all.

7.5s took zero tweaking.
I also went 12.5 for the added velocity.

Exactly. I wish people would quite saying how hard the 7.5 is to get running.
I think this myth is a hold over from when they just started becoming popular and folks were having issues. Rare occasions sure, but not the norm nowadays.

My favorite is 11.5.  I've tried 7.5, 10.25, 10.5, 11.5, and 14.5.  Currently building a folding 7.5.

10.5 personally for more velocity, longer rail (sight radius and real estate) and not as harsh on the can.

But that doesn't mean 7.5 is bad at all.   I'll likely try one for the express purpose of making as small a system as possible with can on it.

Both. 10.5 is a lot more practical. 7.5 is a lot more fun.

I haven't found either of mine to be picky, and they are both built with budget uppers.

Are you doing a 5.56? Had a 7.5" and it ran flawless. I would do another 7.5 for pistol use. I would go a little longer for an SBR.

I know it was not an option but I would go with 11.5 or 12" . Still very handy and you still have great ballistics out to 200 yards.

Thanks guys.  Since for most places to buy either barrel length was close in price.  I made up my mind and go with the 7.5.  Planning to build a SBR down the road later.

I have zero use for a 7.5" other then a play toy. 10.5 or longer for me. Always.

Haha 7.5s are best used indoors!
I shot mine again last night... hello Kx3 fireballs and everyone going "oh sht" what is that.

When I shoot my 7" indoors I get nothing but stern looks while I'm grinning ear to ear.

7.5" Adams Arms piston upper running flawlessly so far - it would short-stroke on the Wolff XP + H3 combo, but stock carbine spring/buffer runs 100%.

My $0.02 is go 7.5" because it's actually a compact package.  At the 10-12" range your OAL starts hitting bullpup size and then you should seriously ask whether a bullpup with a 16" barrel isn't a better choice for your inches...

Oh wait, this is ARFCOM, I mean "GET BOTH!"

I wrote about this topic recently for my blog based on research from these forums, personal experience and help of a gunsmith. This is my blog but not trying to spam here making it clear it is what it is.

I went the route of a bullpup and i was never  completely satisfied with one, .... heavy... trigger sucked...ergo's is not as good, nothing in available mods, expensive ...  and generally was not as accurate as my AR's. I have found that  a 10.5 to 12 inch barrel is in the same position out in front of me as the muzzle of any pistol or 16' bullpup when aimed in.  The biggest factor is horrible 5.56/.223 ballistics with a barrel as short as  7", the 7.5 " barrel is dropping about 500fps with most ammo vs an 11.5 or 12" barrel... that is going to compromise the performance of alot of ammo... may as well be shooting with a .22 mag

What size buffer/spring are you using? Also what size is your port size. I am trying to help a customer with a 7.5" and it doesn't want to cycle right. The port size currently is .068 and appears to cycle better with Hornaby 64 I think on the grain. Supposedly a carbine buffer/spring is better than a H2 buffer from Spikes so I was told but not convinced.
Thanks
