I know alot of folks get into the 300 for subsonic reasons, but I plan on going super only from a 16" with a pistol gas system. What kinda ballistics you guys getting at supersonic with what weight?

Depends on what you plan on doing with it. For plinking people use the heavier grains like 147 since they tend to be surplus bullets and are cheaper. For hunting the best bullets are usually in the 110gr to 125gr with the Barnes 110gr black tips being one of the best all around hunting bullets specifically made for the 300 blackout. The barnes 110gr black tips are capable of full expansion to 1/2 an inch out past 300 yards in a 16 inch barrel. There are some other 110gr and 125gr rounds that work very well too but may not make it out to 300 and get full expansion.

Let us know what your intended use is for it and we can give you better information.

Really just looking for a pig and deer killer from 200 yards in. Maybe a black bear from a 100. I guess thats it. I do hand load pistol rounds, but no rifle rounds yet though i doubt it to be big jump.

I alway loved the light maneuverability of the ar15 but for some unknown reason despised the 556. So the 300 seems to be the ticket for me. Plus it seems that it relatively cheap to load for.

I use H110 and Nosler Ballistic tips and they have put 4 deer in the freezer the last couple of years, I don't know that I want to go 200 with them, but under, no problems at all.

110 gr Barnes TAC-TX and H-110 for handload. See load data for charges.

My loads shoot 1.5 inches for a 5 shot group at 100 yds. This is a hunting bullet not a match bullet.

Barnes also has factory ammo for this all copper expanding bullet.

What is your COL on those Barnes 110's? Unless it's just the camera angle they look shorter than mine. Middle cannelure and slight crimp? Believe I'm loading to 2.250".

Are lighter bullets better with full loads? Am considering the 300 BO with a 16 inch barrel. No suppressor for awhile. Thinking 300 yards would be optimum setup. Or is this unrealistic?

300yd is too far in my opinion due to 1) the bullet drop and 2) you won't have the velocity to expand SOME bullets.  For example:  The Noslers need 1800fps for proper expansion (per Nosler).  That limits you to about 190-200yd with a 16" Blackout bbl.

I've taken deer and hogs with 125gr Sierra Pro Hunters (3 deer), 125gr Nosler Ballistic Tips (10 deer; 7 hogs), and 110gr Barnes Black Tips (5 deer; 9 hogs).  Started out with the Sierra, but switched to the Noslers when I could finally find them for sale due to better accuracy.  Switched to the Barnes because on larger boar hogs they gave a couple more inches of penetration over the Noslers.  On deer, sows, and boars under 120 pounds, the Noslers gave plenty of penetration.  Noslers at Blackout velocity don't expand very well on coyotes, but the Barnes do.

There is a video somewhere on this forum (can't find it now) showing a demonstration with a 10.5 inch barrel shooting 500 yards. Everything I have read showed the short barrels are the sweet spot for 300BO. So assuming very light bullets to accomplish this. Think I will keep my eyes open for a short barrel upper and go pistol setup.

I have read a ton about 300 bo over the past couple of months some old post some new. I also reviewed alot of ballistic charts as well as home chrono reports for various barrel lengths. My takeaway from all of is 16" 1:8 seem to be optimum.

At 9.5" it is still impressive for a short barrel and it makes a shorty 556 look anemic, but it still seemed to average 175-225 fps slower at supersonic when compared to 16" barrel. Guess it depends on what you want it for and stuff like that.

Some will guys will say 300 bo is a poor choice for anything but subsonic and will defend their point by comparing 300 bo sbr 9incher ballistics to that of a 30wcf or 7.62×39 from a 20-24" barrel. So you get my point for some reason some guys just want to hate the 300 Bo. From 50-200 yards a 16" 300 bo can kill any game just as cleanly as a 30wcf can in my opinion.

Thanks. Already have a 12.5 inch barrel 308 AR but its a bit heavy. Going to look for that video and post it. Has some good info on it. If a 16 inch barrelled 300BO could do 300 yards fairly accurate, may pick one up with a 16 inch barrel. Just another round to reload but shouldn't be an issue. I shoot 168 A-Max and 150 FMJ out of the 308. Just not sure what gr bullet I would want to shoot accurately but seems the lighter ones tend to be good. Can max out powder for better distance.
