Ok so I'm sitting in front of my work bench and staring at my polished first run reloads{un primed no powder rounds used to set the seatting depth} and a 308 and 35 Rem fall off and land right next to a AR10 magazine so I said "hey the 35 looks like it will fit in that 308 mag " loh and behold it fits perfectly so I load 5 more in and hot dam it was like it was ment to be.

So has anyone tried to build a 35Rem AR10 i've read a bunch of guys making Ar 15 that shoot a willcat the 35 Herrect and the 35 MPG but no sign of them use a aR10 platform. Everyone said the issue with a new round would be the Mag but this puppy fit perfectly in a AR10 so it looks like the next issue would be the feed ramp. The bolt face is so close I don't think it would be a issue.

How would one go about getting a AR barrel made in 35 Remington.

What do you guys think?

Probably the main reason it hasn't been tried is performance.  The round simply doesn't produce the velocity that something like the 358 does and the same level of performance can be reached in a ar15 wildcat(35 herret or 358 gremlin)

35 Remington is a great round but I'm with pajasonc on the 358.  It performs better.  I don't know why .35 calibers aren't more popular.

A .358 win FAL choked regularly, a new barrel in .338 fed, with the same magazines worked fine. Considering the difference between FAL and Stoner magazines, this observation, from a single case study may be completely irrelevant.

The .35 rem, .358 win and .358 whelen are not good, better and best. Instead they are very good, very good and very good. Each is seriously under appreciated.

I would recommend .358 win. Not because its performance is "better" than .35 rem, but because might work ever so slightly better in, and feeding from, the magazine.

DB

EDIT: In case it was not clear. YES this should be done. I would like to see a .35 rem AR. After all, it is almost seven decades since the last model 8/81 was produced.

I'd have to do a little more research but those two round are for the AR15 plateform and really still wildcat round. I like the 35 Rem for it readily available ammo. I can see the the 35Rem getting hot rodded a little bit for the AR as its close to 20,000 cups lower then the 308 with a 200grain bullet the 35 at 2030fps and 34,900cup and the 308 at 2,476 and 59,000cup so the AR10 can pretty much push the 35Rem harder then those other two round but you never know how they will work.

The .35 has a different rim (slightly) and the .358 is a .308 necked up to .35.The .358 would be the way to go.

KAK and xcaliber both make 358 win barrels.

I have a 358 Win X Caliber.   Very pleased with it and it shoots well.

Go for it, definitely. I used to have a really bad itch to do an M1 Tanker in .35 Whelen, which is a whole lot more work and money. .375 SOCOM has made me all better, for now.

35 Remington is a good idea, especially if you already have something else in 35 Remington.

Well I have to do a little more looking but I can't find a single box of 358 win any where so the 35 rem is looking Oh so much better.

.358 Winchester would be a simple as a barrel swap. 35 Remington can get costly and is loaded to lower pressures. on top of that aside from the lever revolution pretty much everything is round nose soft points which will likely have feeding issues. so I say 358 win for the win.

Well here's a little more food for thought. Both 35s are shorter then the 308. The 358win has a .016 taper and the 35rem has a .054 taper the longer taper may help with ejection. Both will fit in a AR10 mag but from what I'm seeing just playing with the mag the round nose bullets at going to cause the issue as it hits the mag when being striped out.
The only issue I'm seeing other then the mag (miner adjustments) is the gas system not sure it well be over gassed like some of the 308s cause of the bore diameter being much larger (similar to the 300 blackout and 223/5.56) and case capacity is the same.
