New dedicated thread dedicated to all AR platformed rifles chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor.

As the inaugural post, I will begin with my brand new PWS MK220 MOD 1-P Chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor.

Gotta a long way to go until I would consider it finished.

Here are my two 6.5's.  Both use Aero M5 frames and MI rails.  One is a 24" Criterion barrel and the front one is a 26" Krieger barrel.

Since that photo I've added Radius range finders to each of them.

Any noticeable change in barrel length?

Here's a link to my old build thread.  The rifle is now tan after being cerekoted and I've got about 1,000 rounds through it.  Shoots well, but it's a heavy pig.

Aero's Nitride and Phosphate BCG's are marketed as "High Pressure" BCG's.  The firing pin is reduced diameter compared to most on the market (AIM/DPMS/Toolcraft).  My Aero Nitride and Phosphate BCG's have a firing pin that measures .070.  JP was the first to market a High Pressure BCG and uses a firing pin diameter of .062(IIRC).  My AIM/Toolcraft BCG's using a firing pin of .075.  With my Creedmoor builds I got primer flow/pierced primers with the Toolcraft BCG and the smaller firing pin channel on the Aero minimized it.

I originally ordered a NIB Aero 308 BCG to replace my Toolcraft.  After receiving it, I found it appears to be a re-badged Toolcraft. I had to send it back and get the Nitride version actually cut by Aero.

Just added the Magpul PRS stock to mine. It is a nice stock, but I am gonna have to drill out a hole on the end of it to fit over the QD mount PWS has on their end plates so the stock will fit flush with the receiver. It works now as it, but It will annoy me having that gap there.

2. LaRue Mount
3. LaRue MBT
4. Atlas Bipod

Then I am gonna cerakote the whole thing to match the stock.

Try some of the Hornady 140g American Gunner.

The BTHP is a winner in my book - I'm at 2k+ rounds for the year and it's all I buy.

Hell on plates from 300-1250y.

While not out of a gas gun - here's what a rpr will do with it.

Huh. Look at that.

You've got me thinking about a 16" Creedmoor build on a Xanthos receiver set. The Berger 130s should be going around 2600fps out of a 16" barrel, which at my alt (900' ASL) remain supersonic past 1100 yards and over 1000 ft/lb energy at 500 yards. That, to me, is compelling, especially in a sub-7lb gas rifle.

I've got a PSA PA10 bare Gen 1 lower and upper that I need to do something with.  Would 6.5 Creedmoor be a bad choice for this receiver set?

I've got enough .308 rifles covered that I'm considering doing something like the 6.5C but I want to make sure I'm not headed down a path of headache and frustration.

If I'm understanding the 6.5C cartridge correctly, I can purchase a "standard"/large frame AR10 barrel in 6.5C, a 308 BCG from JP Enterprises or some other manufacture who makes a small tip firing pin and reduced aperture bolt face firing pin opening and use standard 308 AR10 PMags to make this come together.  Is that right?

Thanks

I'm running a .308 Mega Maten but have been considering rebarreling to 6.5CM.

Which barrel lengths should I be looking at for a healthy mix of portability while retaining velocity?

Rainier has a good looking 22" tube for under $500....

22" seems to be optimal for a gasser 6.5cm

20" is a bit of a compromise for lighter more maneuverability without sacrificing much ballistics.

There is a 14.5" 6.5cm gasser at the top of this page.

Spoke with them in a live chat, and the guy said that they have had some issues with primer flow and piercing of the primers. He also stated that they were working on a shorter firing pin to help the issues, but would give no eta on that.

Getting started here. I'm going to miss out on an adjustable gas system's benefits, but hoping LMT has their package sorted out. Most likely I'll run an H3 buffer with a stock 308 spring, an play with the spring weight to get the system sorted.

You wont run an H3 buffer.  That will DESTROY your receiver, allowing the carrier key to slam into the lower.

That's a rifle stock, rifle extension.  You will run a special AR10 length buffer.

What I do, is take my AR10 length buffer apart, then add in Tungsten weights as needed.  I use the DPMS AR10 spring.  I want the slowest unlocking and bolt velocity possible, so I pretty much run as heavy a buffer that will work.  On my krieger barrel, it ran the 10 ounce buffer no problem, with an SLR adjustable gas block and I still had to turn the block down.

If it's using a rifle length receiver extension that will be too short of a buffer.  I also use AR10 rifle buffers with Tungsten weights added.  In my case I only swapped three of the internal weights instead of all five.

Gotchya. So - the PRS Gen3 does support either a carbine extension, or a rifle extension.

My question would be - why would you "choose" to run a shorter extension, and be forced into a light buffer, when you don't have to?  Only thing I can think of to do that, is to have the ability to flip back and forth to a light adjustable carbine stock without changing the setup.

Yep, I'm running a Gen3 PRS and it supports both.  I run the rifle extension so I can fit the heavy buffer.
