PSA stripped upper $39 (bought to convert an A2 but never got around to it)

PSA BCG $89 (556 so I have a spare bolt)

Anderson barrel 1:8 M4 ($99) and parts (upper arts, CH, FH, gas tube and roll pin)...total came to $178

Black rifle arms bolt and crush washer enroute.... $78

Troy gas block $19

And probably going with a Monstrum Tac rail....$57

$460 total... How did I do?

I've heard that before. What's the problem with them?

No I don't.

But I am only a bolt (ordered) barrel, handguard and stock away from Grendeling.

Will be mounting on my SPR lower....PSA, collapsable stock, RRA 2stage trigger...

And in response to the mags comment...Still need a couple of hunting mags and a 15 rounder, grendel dies, rings and glass... This upper will be strictly a hunting gun. I got the urge to build it since I had the extra upper sitting around doing nothing.

My ammo so far consists of 18 empties I picked up out of he bucket about 2 range trips ago....

Nice start OP

I have something similar in progress with mega rcvrs, V7 parts, and a AA 18" lw.

Damnit, what firing pin do I need? The barely makes it out of the bolt..
Link Posted: 3/29/2017 11:04:45 AM EDT
[#15]
It should just be the standard firing pin.

Cool...thanks. Thought it looked too shallow for a proper strike.

With a real Grendel bolt, use a standard AR15 firing pin.

The firing pin barely protruded (I thought) on my Les Baer bolt (.136" headspace). It's never failed to ignite any primer of any manufacture.

And here she is...

Not officially done. Waiting on a vice block to lock her down but all the parts are in.

My last build, because I didn't have a receiver block that would fit a billet upper, I used
2 pieces of 2 x 4, one short enough to fit between the pin lugs, the other as long as
the rail on top, put in the bolt carrier (no bolt) and secured it in my bench vice.

Worked like a charm

If I were at my dad's house I could have rigged something but without a decent workbench I was stuck. Found an action block cheap enough, figored it wouldn't be a bad thing to have.

So just following up on the new build....Not as smooth as I wanted.

First off...after all the investment in a "budget" build, I saw Bear Creek was selling comparable uppers for about $120 less than what I had in it so far.

The Anderson barrel was not reemed deep enough. Factory length rounds jammed into rifling and prevented the bolt from closing. Then the bullets would pull out on extraction, leaving them stuck in the chamber. So I had to return the barrel but I was hoping for a refund so I could get one of the barrels from Classic. Anderson said I was out of the 30 return, they would only replace. So I sent the barrel back on them but kept the carbine gas tube because I was expecting a new barrel. Well they gave me a refund instead because I guess they are out of barrels..

So now I'm out the original $10 shipping on the original order. I'm stucking with $10 carbine gas tube I don't need. I ordered a classic barrel with a midlength gas tube and got reaped for $22 shipping. And since I tore down the rifle to return the barrel I decided to replace the barrel nut to the tune of $18....

So I just had a $38 cost overrun on my budget build that is now running about $160 more than the upper I could have picked up from bear creek.

I've taken to simply buying completed uppers for exactly that reason, not to mention the whole "take 'em out of the box, pin 'em on, and 'pew-pew-pew'" part.

Done good. Got a 277 wolverine next in line when I get the time and have a chance to order.

Nothing wrong with Troy's products as far as quality.

Definitely something wrong with the company though do a search, we have been censored on AR15.com from talking about it.

Did pretty good, I just got mine from Sander Armory, shipped in two days, got every thing except a lower (already had a dpms) and magazine for 488 plus shipping . Think the total was 502?

18" ss barrel, fluted as well and the correct .136 bolt.

Have not got to shoot it yet, I forgot to order the magzines lol.
In the photo it is the one on the bottom
