I recently bought the Mega Arms Maten Upper/Lower combo kit. I'm looking for recommendations on 16" barrels. Preferably stainless. Are the Rainier Arms brand barrels any good?

Thanks

My BA barrel shoots <1" with 168gr and 175gr factory match or handload ammo, so don't count them out.  I've also got Rainier barrels and they are top quality but more $$$.

You might also want to consider BlackHole Weaponry.  I have a couple of their barrels so far, including one 16" in 308.  They are all stainless polygonal rifled barrels.  You can get black or satin stainless finish, a variety of fluting and profiles.

I have the same setup as far as the upper and lower go.  I put a 16" faxon light weight 308 on it.  Mega makes their receivers a little small so I had to freeze my barrel and heat my receiver to get the barrel to slide in easily.  My faxon shoots 1 moa with handloads.  I also have one built with a 20in rainier ultra match.  It is about a 1 moa as well.

I'm very happy with my Rainier Match 16"

I haven't shot it for groups yet due to heart surgery earlier this year.  I also have a Ballistic Advantage 10.3" 556 barrel in one of my Mk18 SBR's and I'm happy with that as well.

Curious why there's been no mention of Mega's 16" barrel? Is there something I should know before I shoot mine? You know, so as to set my expectation meter appropriately?

It's more $$$ for the same accuracy guarantee so most folks would like to save some cash.  That would be my guess.  FWIW, I paid $179 for my BA premium barrel.

Thank you all for the advice. Any thoughts on bolts and bolt carriers?

Have a look at White Oak Armory barrels. Said to be very accurate.

Kinda spendy, but I like Proof Research barrels. They make a nice 16" mid gas.

I've got a few of their 5.56mm barrels and they're awesome, however I didn't know they made .308 barrels for ARs...

That said, I've got a Criterion nitrided stainless 16" that I've been really happy with.  Had to special order direct from Criterion, but I got it quickly and have been happy with how it shoots.

Armalite has some very nice 16" offerings as well. Definitely not cheap, but i feel they're worth it. You'll have to use either a complete Armalite bcg, or JP bcg. Cannot mix and match like you can with the others. Small price to pay for guaranteed fitment and function.

I built my MaTen worth armalite AR10T barrel and Armalite guts. Vertu accurate, but a little obese.

Faxon seems to be making some pretty good stuff from what I've seen and read. No personal experience though. If i didn't get a good deal on a LaRue barrel, Faxon was going to be my choice for my current 556 build.

I wonder if they will make chf 308 barrels now that they jumped into the 556......

Here is a bargain 308 barrel, $125 at KAK Industries, any opinions on its accuracy?

16 in 308 barrel

I have not used this barrel, but have been happy with a 9 mm pistol barrel from KAK.

the kak 308 barrels and the double ejector BCG they make have been very good to me and my shooting partner
