What buffer/spring combo is everyone running?  Building one up now and using a Luth MBA-3 stock. First .308 build so no experience with the round other than shooting others bolt guns.

I am using a Magpul PRS AR10 stock with the rifle tube, spring and buffer along with the KAK Dual Ejector BCG.  I got to take mine out again today and put 80 rounds through it flawlessly.

Sadly my AR15 pistol I swapped from 5.56 10.5" barrel over to an 8" 300 blackout barrel was giving me issues today.  I got to feed a couple 20 round PMags through it a couple weeks ago without issue but today it was having trouble cycling with 2 30 round PMags.  I did change it over to a JP Enterprise polished spring with the same buffer (standard carbine buffer) as before so not sure if that was the issue or the 30 round PMags and their springs.  I took a couple co-workers out for their first time ever shooting and didn't pay enough attention to whether the BCG was locking back on the last round or not.  Same ammo as before so not an ammo issue.  The temp today was roughly 95 degrees and the BCG seemed a little dry so I wet lubed the hell out of it and was able to cycle through the last 10 or so rounds in each mag without issue.

Looks like I will be troubleshooting this one next time.  I did buy an adjustable gas block and if it is an over gassing issue I bought an Spikes heavy buffer just in case.  If it is an under gassing issue going to have to have the Ballistic Advantage gas port drilled open a bit more.

Running a PSA 10 Car Tub and Spring with a 4.3oz buffer, I think the factory buffer was 3.4. My casings are usually in a 2-3ft circle at 1-2 oclock.

Where did you find the 4.3 buffer and will it run in 7" tube?  Isn't PSA tube longer?

The Psa tube is longer letting me run standard length buffers. I got it from Joe Bob's,

Thanks, good to know.  308 buffers are not as easy to come by and heavy ones are up there $ wise compared to regular H3.

Carbine spring or PSA special lengh?  Pa-10 one I guess?  Wondering because if so I was going to run their H3 buffer, PA-10 spring and tube and see how it went.

Nice rifle and I like the SS brake.  I have seen one comparison with the Titan brake and Miculek brake and the later showed to hold muzzle down better but not as good on recoil which surprised me a bit.  Wish I could find something checking FSC30, Titan, M4-72 and Miculek.  Though I really doubt you would notice much difference between any of them.  I like the price of the Miculek but the looks of the FSC30 mod 2.

ETA what is thread pattern on barrel?

I  have an FSC30 on my 7.62x39 and tried it on the 308, while it works good it is not in the sane class on recoil reduction as the sjc. I am still thinking of selling a rifle.or two and  buying  a suppressor,

Does anyone have a weight for these? Either the 18" or 20" version. I'm looking to get into the AR10 and I this may be my choice since it seems to be a pretty good price for a solid setup, and everything AR10 seems to be pretty darn well out of stock right now (or REALLY overpriced).

I know my complete build with the 18" weighs a ton with a Magpul PRS AR10 stock on it and a Vortex scope.  I will see if I can find time to weigh just the upper minus the scope.

Forgive the noob question but this is the first 308 I've built.  What besides the take down pins are not interchangeable from regular AR15 LKP?

Found it in sticky...forgot about those

Many AR-15 lower parts are compatible with the LR-308, but the parts listed here are NOT AR-15 COMPATIBLE and must be included in your build. DPMS part numbers to the screw
Other things to note:
The pivot and takedown pins are 9/32".
The magazine catch, spring and button are AR-15, but when assembled correctly the threaded rod part of the catch will be about 3/16" short of flush. I used a 10-32 set screw ground to fit and filled the hole. It looks much nicer.
The 308 Bolt Catch Screw has a 1/16" socket head. Very easy to assemble, just screw it snug, I used a little blue Loctite on the threads.
The pivot and takedown pin detents and detent springs are the same, but the takedown detent comes up from the grip rather than from the back. I found that cutting a small (>1/32") divot in the grip to hold the bottom end of the spring kept the spring from squirming to the side while tightening the grip.
All fire control parts, including the safety selector, are identical to AR-15. Carbine_Man installed a RRA NM 2-stage trigger with no problems.

Finally able to get to the range today.  2MOA with 147 PPU.  Not shabby, but I think some 168 would perform better.

Rise Armament trigger, Luth-Ar MBA1, PA 4-140 mildot.

Still need to get a bippd, an unstable rest was a big part of accuracy issues.

I recently sold 2 PTR-91s to fund 2 LR 308 Builds.

My goal was to keep the initial cost around for each rifle under $1000 because I might add a piston system to them later.

I purchased 2 CBC Uppers yesterday and plan to buy 2 complete APF Lowers tomorrow.

The total cost of each build will be around $900 which isn't too bad

The CBC Upper is on sale for $549 with free shipping and it comes with an 18" barrel and a Hera 12" Keymod FF handguard.

Here is a link to it CBC Upper

I'll post some pictures once I get everything put together.

Oh man....thinking one of these Alexandria uppers cut down to 11.5 with a low pro  flash can to fill out the rest of the stock rail would be sexy.  That brace you have would probably be better than sig brace also for me.

I had the original Sig brace on a KAK Super tube.  While I like the Sig brace, it is heavier, more bulky and a lot more $$ than shockwave.  Overall, I like the shockwave MUCH better.

Ok my second 18" upper came in today.  Here are numbers a few were looking for.

Upper stripped of rail, charging handle and BCG is 65oz
Rail with mounting screws 16.75oz
BCG 18.5oz
Charging handle 1.45oz

So say 101.75oz or 6.359lb and give me a +/- of say 2oz all in all.

ETA that's with factory bird cage on.

ETA. The rail isn't as heavy as most make it out.  16.5 or so without screws for a 15" rail.  No sharp edges, full mounting options and it is open slots and feels pretty good in hand. And just FYI one is for sale in EE AR10 section for $125....I think that would be pretty good price.  They run $200 from Alexander I think?

FYI it won't be 18" long.  Cutting it to 12-12.5 and putting screaming banshee flash can on end under factory rail.  Probably Thordsen pistol cheek weld and AVG of some sort.  Be a heavy bitch but I'm a big boy so all good.

I purchased an Alexandria Pro Fab 20" 308 upper and married it to a PSA PA-10 Lower with PSA parts and a Magpul fixed stock. I spent around $790 by the time I was done. Had issues with the bolt stop not working but went ahead and took it to the range and sighted the scope at 25 yds. Shot 20 rounds of Walmart ammo, no issues. To solve the bolt catch issue I purchased an APF bolt catch in the hopes it would make a difference but no joy. Did some reading on the web and found out others with the same or similar issue. Emailed PSA and got a standard disclaimer answer stating their lowers are only guaranteed to work with their uppers. Back to researching I went, I found an instance were someone grinded the bolt catch were it makes contact with the plunger and spring to make it work. I took the extra bolt catch and grinded approx 1/4 inch and that made the bolt catch swing high enough to catch the bolt. I will take it back to the range to sight it in at a 100 yds soon.

PS: Loading pictures to this forum is not as obvious as I thought it would be. I will post some when I figure it out.

I bought the 18" upper, and the Pro Fab lower from AIM. I used a standard LPK but used a CMC 3.5 pound trigger,  the .308 take down pins, and a TruGlo scope (for now) in an ultralite Aero one piece mount. I set out 3 steel's at 50 yards By the 3rd shot, one by one the steels dropped. We then set a 6" plate out at 132 yards, and after two shots, the plate was stung by each continuing shot. Others gathered around to shoot and thy were pretty impressed with the rifle and the cost. All did mention that it felt heavy, and I'm guessing somewhere in the ballpark of 9-10 pounds.

Shooting it was more for function testing, so I haven't shot a target yet to see what I can get for a MOA. I like it and I liked to end price when it was all together. I am going to get a couple rail sections.

Similar experience for me. Upper and lower from AIM and using a standard lpk trigger & cheap surplus ammo I'm ~2" too. I will dial it in with hunting ammo now and expect it to be just fine. I'm quite pleased since I'm in it for around $850.

Here's mine- I purchased this upper from AIM Surplus. It is an Alexandria Pro Fab upper receiver, not an APF (Alex Pro Firearms, All though, they look to be identical). I purchased the stripped lower from Alex Pro Firearms (APF). They have told me that they have never had there upper receivers for sale on the AIM Surplus website and that they are not affiliated in any way with Alexandria Pro Fab. But that they use the same T-Mod hand guard.   I'm having some intermittent problems with FTF's but was able to zero it in and am very happy with the accuracy. I was able to impact steel targets at 450 yards with relative ease.  Think it's a crap BCG. It looks as if the bolt is a left hand extractor. The beveled end of the bolt retaining pin hole is on the bottom when it should be on the top to insert retaining pin into. So if you were to turn it up to the top the extractor would be on the left. Looking into replacing the Bolt, maybe that's the problem

Did you put those panels on top of picatinny rails or was it a direct bolt on to the handguard?

rotaryeye:
They are Centurion Arms CMR Accessory Pack B - Olive Drab purchased from Rainier Arms  https://www.rainierarms.com/centurion-arms-cmr-accessory-pack-b-od-green
I purchased from them because I couldn't find them in OD green anywhere else. Not even on the Centurion arms web page.

What I did was to purchase the T-MOD Long Accessory Mount Slides from Alex Pro Firearms website. (I also purchased the front cap) Each slide section has four #10X32 taped holes. Then I cut the mount slides into four separate single hole peaces.
At this point I now had four small single hole slides from each slide. I did this because the hole pattern in the mount slides don't mach the  hole pattern on the hand cover panels. I then was able to insert the individual single hole mount slides into the T-slot located inside the rail to make a direct mount to the rail without having to use picatinny rails. I used #10X32X3/8 hardened black button head screws to attach the panels. It Worked out very well. Along the top sight rail I use LaRue index clips.

I looked them up on Google Maps. The two faculties are next-door to each other. I'm positive that Alexandria Pro Fab is the machine shop that produces the components and Alex Pro Firearms is the FFL dealer that contracts them to manufacture there component designs.
