I bought a 6.8 upper last fall for the sake of deer hunting. Now, I'm not here to turn this into a debate. I have killed deer with my .223/5.56 guns but wanted something a little harder hitting for the small chance I have the opportunity to take a big deer. I was looking into 300BO but ultimately decided with the 6.8. Now, ~ 8 months later I prefer the round to my 5.56 guns. I really like the cartridge and find myself shooting it more than other calibers. Cost has gone down as it can be routinely had for .60c a round if you don't reload which also helps. Anyone else here love it too?

No secret here how I feel about it.
Its the single most adaptable and reliable round in the AR15 after the 5.56.
Suppressed, CQB, HD, hunting and distance all are covered.

And if you don't reload you can always sell the brass to reloaders for around half that so you're at .30¢ a round for brass cased decent ammo

I was never interested in the AR rifle, I actually detested it. But when it became available in 6.8spc it peaked my interest. After much research between the traditional DI gas system an the piston driven system I decided to go with the DI system in 6.8spc.
I eventually changed out the barrel with an ARP barrel for better performance.
I later bought a 5.56 AR for the females of the family to use, but upon realizing that the 6.8 didn't kick much more and that I really don't like 5.56, I converted it over also.
It's the caliber the AR should've been designed with in the first place IMHO. I've stocked up on 6.8spc ammo and mags so I'm pretty well invested in it.

My 6.8 is my favorite gun I own. I shoot my 556's more, but the 68 is my favorite. I've had one for about 4 years now.... Taken 7 deer, 2 pronghorn, 1 bear and 1 elk. Perfect for backpack hunting here in the west.

I shoot my 6.8 more than any of my others now. I've been picking up brass on the local Facebook reloaded page. There always seems to be someone with 75-150 at a time to get rid of for about $25-40 a pop. Depending on amount. I shoot at home it up as soon as I see it.

Not yet, I only have four.

Picked up an LWRC Six8 SPR a few months ago...so I guess that makes me a 6.8 fanboy.  ...now if only someone would make a 10 or 20 rnd mag for the Six8... (yes, I know about the chop job option to the PMag)

I like mine, have two and hunt with tem often. I also hunt with a wildcat based off the round... a .30HRT.

I don't own one "yet"  I keep saying that and one day I may actually break down and get one.  if I do end up going 6.8 route I may end up with a .277 wolverine.  I reload almost exclusively and can get 5.56 brass easily

There is very little to dislike about the 6.8spc original specs or the SPC II specs.

If it does what you need it to then it is an excellent choice.

I love my 6.8 18" ar.  Thats my go to gun for hunting

I am VERY happy with it.  I've told this story before, but it has been a while.
Didn't deer hunt from age 18 to about 40.
Got invited and took a 5.56 AR.
Saw a hog about dusk.
Put 3 62 gr soft points in it's head from about 40 yards, but that didn't kill it.
Bought a .308 AR, but it is too heavy to stalk hunt.
Discovered 6.8SPC around mid-2008.
I have had two for about 5 years now and hunted coyote & deer ever since.
I've got 2 SOCOM profile barreled uppers that I need to sight in soon.

I built two .300blks, then built a 6.8.  I wanted a 6.8 but the panic hit and I had trouble finding parts....but not anymore.  6.8 is a great round, and can be reloaded pretty cheap as well if you use S&B brass, which is really good brass.

My favorite also. I have a 18" and a 12.5", both with ARP barrels.

I shot 2 deer late year at 200 yards with neck shots, both drt.

I have an ARP 6.8 that I got last fall - just in time to sight it in, and shoot a deer with it. I am stocking up on S&B ammo from PSA, then will be reloading it.

I don't ever see this as an alternative caliber for 5.56 due to the cost of ammo, but I like mine a lot. I view it as more of a hunting tool though than an all around shooter. Maybe that will change in the future, but I am not thinking so.

It's my go to hunter too. Great little all around general purpose cartridge! Sort of a 'Jack-of-all-trades.'

I really need to get it sighted in for groundhogs sometime with some 85gr MPGs. Just picked up 10 130 Bergers. I'd like to try them out at distance too.

My favorite two black rifles are 6.8. Absolutely love the round. My 11.5 sbr is probably my favorite as a hog gun but my 16" deer upper is a close second.

wondered onto this thread tonight... I was just thinking of selling off my 6.8SPC.
Haven't shot it much and having a hard time justifying it.  I've had it for several years and just haven't shot it.
Maybe I'll take another look at it.
I have 6.8, 300 whisper aka Blackout, 5.56 and a AR10.  So I'm getting older and don't shoot as much and was thinking of down sizing the heard.

I was thinking of upgrading my 300 Blackout but wondering if I should keep my 6.8 instead.

I haven't been that big a fan since I saw a comparison of the 5.56 and 308 trajectories vs the 6.8 so I'm wondering if something has changed in the last few years. I haven't kept up with the 6.8.

Has bullet selection got any better?  when I last bought bullets there wasn't much for the 6.8 on low drag long range bullets for it.

My rifle in 6.8 is awesome, 16" shilen barrel with a nice little leupold scope sitting on top.

I had just got on here to search performance comparisons between the 300 Blackout and the 6.8SPC, but you can't do searches unless it's more than 3 letters which makes 300 and 6.8 not searchable.

Anyway I like my rifle, but not sure I would say love the 6.8

Take a look at the Berger 130 Gr VLD at 2550 fps loaded to 2.3 OAL in PRI or ASC mags.
.452 BC, compare that to a .300 or 5.56
There are many new bullets designed just for the 6.8 now.

I'm finishing up a build; just sent the upper out to have the brake pinned and welded. I haven't fired anything in 6.8 but everything I've read seems to be positive. It'll probably be my go to rifle once it's done.

I love mine. I've shot it much more the last few years than my 5.56.

It's one sweet shooting gun with an adjustable gas block and a suppressor.

Eventually I'll build a 6.8 SPC SBR for home defense. I can't think of anything in the AR platform that would be better suited to home defense. You can get the Federal 90 gr Gold Dots and we can practice with the pulled bullets that come up from time to time.

120 SSTs are my favorite as of now.  I haven't taken it past 200 yards yet but im confident it would hold up fairly well at longer ranges based on some things i have seen others do with it.

absolutely devastating on hogs and deer, too.

I believe I may have killed more animals, than any other person on this earth, using 6.8 SPC.  To say I "love it" is not how I'd put it.  I'd say that once 6.8 was released, I now find the AR to be the most versatile platform of any rifle I've used in the past.  We have 5.56 for training and varmints and the 6.8 for hunting small game to medium game, hogs, deer, etc.  I think that the 6.8 is the perfect compliment to the 5.56, since we all know that you can simply have upper, bolt and mags for your 6.8 and use that on your lower.

But no other caliber choice available in the AR delivers more energy, velocity and flat trajectory form the shortest barrels.   The 6.8 is the most efficient of all the mainstream cartridges available for the AR. These attributes make it the most compact AR based weapon delivering the highest performance, given the overall weight and length of the gun.  6.8 suppresses well and can be used for both CQB and much longer ranges.  My most distant kill with 6.8 is 404 yards on a hog, using a 95 TTSX.

WRR has now killed over 2200 hogs with about 1800 of those being killed by 6.8, with bullets ranging from the 80 grain GS custom, 82 Raptor, 85 TSX, 90 grain Gold Dot,  95 TTSX, to the 100 AB, 110 AB,  110 Hornady BTHP, 120 SST and 140 Berger VLD.  They all work.

With an 85 TSX, I can get almost 3000 FPS from a 16 barrel, and 2900 form my 12.5" SBR, wearing NV and suppressor, weighing in at less than 10 lbs.

6.8 suppressed SBR with NVD and suppressor.  Oh, and BTW, this hog was killed with a 200 grain Hawk round nose, subsonic (which cycles the action) and a 1:7 twist barrel with correct rifling and bore ratio.

Works great from the Helo, too.  I favor my LWRC SIX8 with 16" barrel, since it has ambi controls.  It suppresses nicely with the piston system.
