I receive questions like this often:

Why the 6.8 round?
What are the differences in this and 5.56?

So, I wanted to make a thread dedicated to educating people on the 6.8 SPC II round along with our LWRC Six8 platform. Many of the reads and articles out there can be very detailed and confusing for someone who just wants to know the benefits and idea behind the 6.8. Before reading this I encourage everyone to watch this video as it will give you a great introduction on the round and the platform.




To begin; there is a difference between "Six8" and "6.8". "Six8" is the designation of the L.W.R.C. rifle platform. While "6.8" is the actual caliber round that the Six8 utilizes. Keep in mind, all Six8 rifles are chambered in 6.8 SPC spec II (not spec I).



The 6.8 SPC round

The 6.8 SPC round was generally designed to create a round that would fix the deficiencies of the 5.56's performance. Essentially this was created to make a more powerful and all-around performing better round than the 5.56. this would ultimately be a bridge between 5.56 and 7.62. So, with a 6.8 you are getting more performance; range, terminal ballistics, and barrier penetration are all greatly improved. This includes your performance out of a short barrel rifle as well. The L.W.R.C. Six8 platform

Traditionally, no one has ever created a "true" designated 6.8 rifle. Most every 6.8 rifle was utilizing 5.56 components. Although this does work, it presents various issues with fitment and primarily magazine reliability/ feeding issues. We decided to build a rifle around the 6.8 SPC round itself. This included collaborating with Magpul to make a wider magazine that truly fits the 6.8 SPC II round. Our system is the only one that will accept a Magpul 6.8 SPC II P-Mag magazine. We widened the mag-well in order to accept these new magazines. the Six8 is a proprietary system, however the fire control group, grip, and picitany rails are still interchangeable with standard AR-15 components.



So what's the benefit?

You are getting a round that is versatile like the 5.56, however you are getting more performance behind your round. As you can see in Todd Huey's videos: Todd can easily transition between multiple hog targets and still have the ability to kill the hogs in minimal shots. The L.W.R.C. platform will allow you to utilize this round and ensure reliability with platform and magazine. This is the only 6.8 AR15 that accepts PMags.
