Can someone point me (us?) to some in stock decent 25 round mags?  I have some from PSA that won't drop free from my BCM lowers, and can't find other brands in stock at my usual places.

I have a 556 and 6.8.  The 6.8 comes out for whitetail season and the 556 comes with me to the gravel pit.  If I had to pick one to knock down animals (2 leg & 4 leg), the 6.8 comes with me.

In short, build both.

I do the same. 16" ARP barreled upper only gets used for deer season.

I've decided on a Bison 16" Recon barre 1/11 twist. Should I just get a standard carbine buffer or is there another buffer the 6.8 likes? This is my first carbine build and I'm really confused on the different types of buffers.

Its set-up to just run a standard carbine buffer and spring.
It will be a shooter, Ben does a good job on his barrels.

If you're using a telestock (telescoping stock), use a standard carbine buffer and standard carbine spring to get it running.
Get it running, then experiment with different weights if you wish.

Use full power ammo like SSA, S&B or Fusion and stay away from weak Remington ammo.

Thanks guys. I appreciate it. I'm using a mil-spec 6 position carbine tube I went with a Magpul MOE FCS. Being in a socialist state I'd have to pin any collapsible stock into a fixed stock so I just went with a fixed one.

I've had best fitment with the mil spec versions as opposed to commercial.

Good luck.

Yeah, I read the commercial tubes are somewhat sloppy. I stick with mil-spec parts as much as possible.

Pretty much all the ammo on the market except Remington is good to go.
I have tried it all.
We did use Rem ammo to test the newest version of CPD mags because if they could feed that crap they could feed anything.

This has me curios. Is it just Remington 6.8 ammo that sucks or is it across the board? Because I've been running Remington .308 through my M1A and it doesn't seem too bad.

Remington 6.8 is the weakest SAAMI 6.8 ammo produced. I have had no issues with any other caliber in the past.

OK, had me worried there I thought I was feeding my M1A the equivalent of Tula Wolf ammo.

I'll definitely be steering clear of the Rem 6.8 ammo then.

I was weaned on Remington Core Lokt, but Remington just does not do 6.8 very well at any level.
They even screwed up the original chamber and now produce weak ammo so it's safe in those early chambers.

It's been a few weeks since I've updated the thread so heres a pic of the build thus far.

</a>://" />

I just got my BCG from AIM. I'm getting ready to order my barrel and handguard. I'm waiting for my muzzle brake to come in. I ended up going with the Troy Claymore.

I've still got to order an AXTS Raptor too. But UK probably get it to the range before that.

Yea I have researched it and have planned a 6.8 build for a while. Im going to use either a barrel from Harrison or from Black hole weaponry.  I'm going to use it for deer slaying, 18" barrel. I have a billet upper/lower set from CMT it should be a nice solid package when done. OP there's a ton of info on the forum mentioned by other posters, get some pics once you get it built.

Received my barrel from Bison yesterday. Mounted it all up and took it to the smith to have the brake pinned and welded; thanks Socialist State of New Jersey, hate this state.

</a>" />

Ended up with a bead blasted 16" Recon. The gunsmith said I should have it back around July 13th. The one request I asked of the gunsmith is that he clock the brake so the word Troy is at 6 o'clock. I know the instructions say it should be at 12 but he said there's no reason why it couldn't be clocked for 6. He said its the same all the way around.

In the AR platform, I don't think there's a more efficient cartridge that has a lengthy and proven track record of reliability under conditions where it's been pushed at uppermost pressure limits.

I don't understand why the military hasn't officially adopted it across the board. I know there are some special units that are using it.

Standardization with allies, costs of reissuing with new weapons and the 5.56mm is doing the job.

Got my upper back from the gunsmith today. Gun is assembled side for sights and an optic.

I'm going to be running a Raptor charging handle at some point. I've got a regular charging handle in there for now.

Tough choice. Both are top shelf. Harrison has a custom chamber & Melonited barrel. BHW has SS barrels made in-house. Both are great barrels.

Just got back from the range with the rifle. I had only one FTF and I'm not sure what happened but out of 60 rounds fired 1 FTF is pretty good. The round that wouldn't fed seemed to get caught on the feed ramp. When I pulled the round the tip was crushed on one side. Like I said, I'm not sure what caused it but everything fired before that and after.

</a>" />

OK, so all the holes top left are barrel break in. I didn't care where they hit as long as they were on paper. I cleaned the barrel after every shot for at least 30 rounds. Then after that I was firing three rounds at a time as I walked them to the center. At first I was going the wrong way, which is why still on the left in the center they are spread out some. I had the target set at 50 yards for break in but was shooting steel plates out at 100 yards once I got it zeroed.

Overall, I'm really impressed with 6.8 and the Bison barrel I got. This rifle seems to be a lot more accurate than both my 5.56 rifles. I'm going to have to upgrade all my optics to Strikefires too. What's the Hive's opinion on my grouping; center of the target only?
