Will, I don't see any mention of it but what barrel are you using?

You should have received a return label to send the original bolt back to us. I'd like to inspect and test it when it comes back. If you didn't get a return label, please let me know and I'll make sure one gets sent to you.

I used two different barrels, bbl 1 is a RAINIER ARMS ULTRA MATCH 18" mid length gas with ODIN adj gas block; bbl 2 is a DPMS "Hunter" 21" rifle length gas with SYRAC ORD adj gas block.

I have sent the bolt back, it went out yesterday.  Please pay special attention to the EXTRACTOR, that thing is UGLY.  The LUG looks deformed and BENT on it.

This picture shows the 7.62x51 LC09 149gr FMJ LODGED in the BOLT FACE.  This is due to two factors: 1) tension & grip of the EXTRACTOR and 2) the BOLT FACE having very little bevel and therefore GRIPS & INHIBITS the round from easily seating & shaving off slivers of the rim:

Gen 1 Bolt on the way back to you:

William, I hope this gets resolved for you.  I have a Phosphate BCG from Aero and after reading through here I had some concerns.  So I checked fit/feed with some Lake City brass.  I don't have my gas tube in yet, so I haven't been able to test fire, but it cycles normal, by hand, and didn't have any issues with the rounds not seating in the bolt, etc.  I've been very pleased with the fit/finish on my Aero receivers, LPK(except the mag catch, come on Aero), and receiver extension.  I'm using a Mega Arms 18" barrel as well and for the investment, I'm super stoked about how the rifle has come together thus far.

I am pleased with my M5 assembly, the Aero Bolt Carrier works like a champ, it just RUNS [AND better] with a AiM Surplus BOLT in it...  I missed out on a sweet deal on a LaRue OBR bolt!!!!

I have next on my 'put together list' a sweet Lothar-Walther 21" barrel, with a headspaced bolt from them (hopefully its not like ColonelRebel issues with his JP bolt!)

I am putting this barrel/bolt combo into a Mega MATEN with rifle length handguard.

Taking a break from the frustrations of the M5 Bolt & bolt catch.

I was all excited about the emailed response I received from Aero's Customer Service saying they were gonna send me a new bolt catch...  Whatever.  Waiting over two weeks now on them, served to motivate me to FIX an off the shelf AR-15 bolt catch to WORK.

Again, making the M5 WORK is doable.  Frustrating DOABLE.  Its just BULL-SHEISSE that AERO PRECISION PARTS DON'T WORK IN IT!!!

AAAGH!  THE ANGER SHARKS ARE SWIMMING IN MY HEAD!!

YOUR COMPANYS PARTS ARE SUPPOSSED TO WORK WITH THE REST OF YOUR COMPANYS PARTS!  THEY GOTTA WORK WITH THAT SHIT!

Getting upset about it again, lemme go back to my calming MEGA assembly...  Gooz-Fraba - GOOOZ-FRRAAA-BAAAH....

Just having a laugh...

Its a GREAT barrel, I think I would prefer a RIFLE length gas system though - the difference between the 18" Middy & 21" Rifle in firing impulse is drastic!  Plus (IMHO) an adjustable gas block is MANDATORY for the Mid-length & carbine gas systems, not so much for the rifle.

Even with the adj gas block dialed back, that gas has to go SOMEWHERE - which I think equates to gas port erosion at a faster rate.  I can already see a bit of gas escaping marks (mostly carbon residue) from the clamp on gas block & barrel interface after 100 or so rounds.

So a Rainier 18" barrel with a rifle length gas system & a SLR adjustable gas block and I SHOULD be pretty good to go then?

I ended up deciding on this Bolt Carrier Group: Next Level Armament

SAE 4140 Carrier(more often 8620) and bolt.

extractor is machined from billet (check the fit and finish on that badboy), as is the gas key.

shot peened and MPI.

has the proper bevel/radius (proper term escaping me atm?) on the bolt face, like the LaRue...

The unit they're sending me is Diamond Like Carbon (DLC) coated.

Doesn't have FA serrations, I decided i don't care.

The folks at Next Level Armament are truly a joy to work with, Dave particularly was kind enough to correspond with me through email AFTER HOURS on a SUNDAY, and I kid you not, I had a tracking number
by 6AM this morning. I tell ya, thats how you build confidence and a good business relationship.

will post my hands on experience once this beauty arives.

Yeah that does look very nice!

Compared to these:

Just look at the difference in EXTRACTORS (as well as other features).

You will have to let everyone know how it looks, & functions.

Also: Pop out the EXTRACTOR and whats underneath as far as springs & O-rings?

Correct.

Will post a detailed look at this puppy once it's in my hands.

The LMT Will posted looks very, very nice as well. 10/10 would run it. and LMT's reputation precedes themselves.

I'm waiting for a certain barrel to come back in stock, so may be a bit before I can post a proper function report, but never the less, to be forthcoming. stay tuned.

I am not a huge fan of Rubber City Armory BCG's. Yeah, I finally got one that worked for a .556 build, but it took sending it back two times. They did stand behind it, but I wasted about a month or two dicking with it and sending it back, only to get another defective one. Hopefully they have resolved their issues with carrier keys, etc.

Failure to eject. Would not blow back and pick up next round. Gas key plugged or leaking. Not sure, but they shipped back still non-functioning. Finally convinced them it was not my gun, as I had several bolts that all worked in the same gun ( various makes). They ultimately tested it and agreed to send one that worked.I all fairness, they did give me a muzzle brake for my trouble, but my lack confidence in the BCG remains. I sold it and moved on.

I thought RCA made all of Rainier's BCG's?

Damn dude.  That sucks.  I hate it when stuff doesn't work like it should.  Glad that RCA stood by the product, worked with you and even tried to hook you up with something, but yeah - its damn near impossible to get that TRUST & CONFIDENCE back.

I can't even get the stuff from Aero Precision that they said they'd send (bolt catch) .  Still trying to get their BOLT to work .

Whatever, thats just how they treat customers.  Word gets around...

Somewhat unrelated to the current discussion regarding BCG's, but what action block are y'all using to torque down the barrel nut?  I've got a clamshell I've used on all of my AR builds, but need to figure out how to barrel a -10.

Awesome, thank you!  Only thing that worried was the barrel nut design, but I’ve been reading good things about it. Now to find a good place to buy the 15" at lol.

there have been a few unhappy customers........
http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_2_217/264311_Check_out_my_AWESOME_308_BCG___.html
and some not headspacing with mega barrels.
http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_2_217/265143_AIM_308_BCG_and_Mega_Arms_308_barrel_not_headspacing_.html

haven't heard any glowing reviews on them, and those were the only two threads I could see going against them. I think the one guy needs to find his xanex prescription and call his therapist, but I digress. I still think im going to give one a shot, but I bought a mega barrel so that gives me doubt. I might just buy a stripped bolt from somewhere, have it headspaced and find a carrier somewhere.

After being told by their Customer Service guy that they were going to send another one out to fix this, I waited its been over two weeks now.  NOTHING.

I thought maybe it would have been in with the BOLT they replaced, NOPE.

Well, I suppose I should re-read and he did write "What I can do is mail you a new replacement bolt catch..."  He didn't say that he WOULD.

I went to the local gunshop and purchased a no-name AR-15 bolt catch and then removed some of the metal from the backside.  FIXED.  BOLT CATCH ISSUE

EMAIL from MAY 14, 2015:
Hello William,

I do apologize for that,

What I can do is mail you a new replacement bolt catch and that should solve he issue.

I did receive the BOLT CATCH today. (Email received on May 14, bolt catch received on June 5th)

Thank you Aero Precision.  I will attempt an install at a future date.

I am happy with mine so far, have about 200 rounds down the barrel with no problems. I checked the headspace when I bought it, it checked out okay with Go and No-go gauges. I had to replace the roll pin for the ejector after breaking the original one when tapping it out for the headspace check. If I am not mistaken, it required an Armalite AR-10 roll pin, not the DPMS style from Fulton Armory. I guess there are some differences.

Good looking rifle thus far

How do you like that Luth-ar stock? Does it feel "solid"? Sturdy?

I do like it. A lot cheaper than the PRS, and does what I want it to.

Seems like a few unique parts such as the mag release, etc.
I'm still in the process of building mine.

Does anyone know if the LaRue A Peg grip works with the M5?  I would like to get one for my build, but have heard that they might not fit all 308 lowers.

The .308 APEG can be MADE to work by dremeling out some of the material, I had one on my AP M5.

I don't know if the 5.56 would fit better?

in THIS THREAD Aero states that their M5 receivers are made for standard AR15 grips, the APEG 7.62 definitely does not fit without modification, the larue apeg for the ar15 may work, though.

ETA: My MIAD 1.1 fits beautifully with no gap.

I ordered my FDE M5 set from Schuyler Arms yesterday. I didn't realize till afterwards there was a gen 2 version with a tension screw and new changes so that my BCM charge handle will fit without modification. Have any of you ordered from them recently and can you verify whether or not it what they sold you was the updated version?

Thanks!

My Aero bolt wouldn't even allow the extractor to go on the bullet with the two o-rings

I don't have any o-rings currently and it works, but not all the time

Maybe my bolt is defected also?

Cam pin also wore a good amount after less than 2 dozen rounds of 7.62

I might just order another bolt and use the aero BCG, hopefully another bolt doesnt cause excessive cam pin wear also

edit: anyone have experience with running a different bolt in the aero BCG? Maybe nemo or JP?

http://store.nemoarms.com/nib-x-308-bolt-assembly-no-carrier/

My gun also jams when I fire slowly but runs good at a high rate

I ordered mine from Midway, but they are not in stock. Someone said they were having trouble finding the UTG Pro, so I provided 2 links. So, they are out there, but I can't vouch for either company linked.
