If it's like the Brownells tool, it will work. Use an allen wrench or similar to compress the spring and turn it just enough to catch the edge of the detent. Remove the allen wrench to turn it the rest of the way, then proceed as normal. The ziploc is a good idea too.

The AR15 tool won't work, as it's not long enough.
I insert the spring and drop the detent onto the spring. Use a small allen key to depress it into the lower, then slide the pin into the hole. There isn't a lot of clearance but there is enough to catch the detent with the pin and still be able to remove the allen key. The razor blade method should work though. |
