Archived [ARCHIVED THREAD] - .308 Rifle Gas system length

I could not find the answer with my google-fu of how long a .308 rifle length gas system is.

My reasoning is i'm looking at 15 inch handguards but i am not sure if a 15 inch handguard will cover or partially cover the gas block how most other handguards cover or partially cover the gas block.

Rifle length is 12". A 12" handguard will generally end just before, or just about on, the gas block.

Does anyone have photo's of there actual rifle of how far the gas block sits with a 15 inch handguard installed?

There are 2 different rifle-length gas system locations for .308 AR's.

* ArmaLite Inc. length, used by many companies outside of ArmaLite as well

* AR15 RLGS length, for convenience of being able to use AR15 gas tubes

Both gas block locations will be covered by a 15" handguard.
