Can anyone tell me off the top of their head whether you need the standard Magpul MIAD or the MIAD 1.1 308 version to properly fit the Aero lowers?

Has anyone had trouble installing an SLR handguard on their 308 Aero Precision upper? My handguard doesn't make contact with the upper receiver because the pin holding the ejection port cover is too long. Probably a simple fix but not sure why that pin protrudes past the receiver to begin with.. View Quote I have three SLR handguards, for some reason only one of them has a notch to clear that pin. On my other two builds I had to kiss the pin with a dremel (didn't have to take much material off). |

View Quote The only thing different (that I know) between MIAD 1.0 and 1.1, is that 1.0 came with a front strap that had an integrated trigger guard. Magpul got greedy and revised the miad to 1.1, dropped the trigger guard and kept the price the same. And now they also will sell you a separate plastic trigger guard. Of which you won't need with a M5 lower. |

40 fucking dollars for a lancer mag for one of these things? i believe i will not be building a fleet of these things.

What are the best options for a muzzle device. I had a YHM flash hider laying around from a previous build, so I stuck it on but it's just too freaking big!

Did completed uppers jump in price? $610 for 18" .308 SS w/15" MLOCK? I thought it was a little cheaper.

Well...
I have a problem. I've now managed to pick up 2 more FDE M5 Aero lowers. I have a black one as well. I'm seriously thinking of building a 45 Raptor, because I have everything but the handguard and barrel to do another build. |

It seems to prefer 168gr over 175, at least at 100. I'm still searching for the right commercial match round. Gmm 168s averaged right under 1". 175s 1.5". I based this off the 1" grid of the target. No official measurements were taken. This was more of a shake down shoot to adjust the gas block and verify function. I plan to try some gorilla and some hsm to see if I can find something it likes better. |

So is there a list of triggers that would fit an aero m5 lower? Looking at cmc and larue. Thinking both fit but just wanted to make sure.

Any AR15 trigger will fit. Haven't heard any problems with any so far. View Quote Ok thanks I just went to order my rifle length buffer kit and lpk from aero. However they don't have the buffer kit in stock for rifle length. However they have both the spring and the buffer weight. So question is this. Does anyone know if they use the same extension for the AR15 as they do for the 308? If so, those are in stock and I will just order piece meal rather than the kit. Thanks! |

Has anyone use the AIM Surplus 308 BCG in the Aero Precision Upper? Slowing starting to piece together stuff for a build.

Finally got a chance to get out and shoot my M5E1 at a local quarry. Ran 60 rounds of 3 different types of ammo using 3 different types of magazines (Lancer, Magpul and CProducts) through it with so much as a hiccup. Absolutely perfect. Even the Magpul MBUS sights were pretty much zeroed from initial installation. After a few quick shots at paper to see where it was hitting, I was knocking quart size oil jugs around at 100-150 yards with ease from offhand. Also took a Garand and a 7.62x39 AR with me for an hour of .30 caliber power.

I just finished reading this thread from post #1 to here (took days - whew!) and learned a lot that helped with my ongoing M5 .308 build. One thing I did not see mentioned is this:
How interchangeable are DPMS style .308 firing pins? I've read that the bolt and carrier ought to be from the same manufacturer to ensure proper fit, but what about the firing pins? If I buy a DPMS ".308 firing pin," will it fit any manufacturer's .308 BCG? What about the firing pin retainers? Bolt gas rings? Are the extractor O-rings the same size as an AR-15s? I'm assuming that the heftier .308 BCG uses larger gas rings, firing pin and maybe firing pin retainer. I like keeping spares of these on hand for my AR-15s. I'd like to do the same for my .308 build but I'm not sure how interchangeable these are from one BCG manufacturer to another. |
