I heard with a loaded mag,16-18 bbl and optic 9 or 8 pounds is standard.

What companies do I have to throw my hard earned drug money to for a lightweight rig?

JP LMOS BCG
SLR or carbon fiber handguard
Lightweight profile barrel.

That's about it.

You can do better by going with a DPMS G2.  You start off with a lightweight receiver set and BCG right off the bat.

Get the barrel profiled or dimpled if you want to, and use a lightweight handguard from MI or Sampson, or carbon fiber.

Pick the lightweight optic and mount of your choice.  It feels and handles literally like an AR15.

Dpms lite hunter starts out under 8lbs unloaded, no optic and with a 20" barrel.

I  put together mine at 7.25# before optics with a billet 7075 lower, but I do not know that you would want a lighter 308. The recoil is noticeable with the lighter rifle so much so it affects my accuracy. It does shoot better standing than from a bench, and serves its purpose as a hunting rifle just fine, but does not offer much over my 6.5 Grendel.

Mines 8 lbs as you see it. Not everyone's cup of tea but it isn't meant to be. The current optic is only temporary I have another in mind that isn't available yet...if ever. And I have another 308 that weighs over 10 lbs.

At least one model of the DPMS G2 weighs 7.25 lb, a couple others weigh <8 lb.  Also the M&P 10 weighs like 7.9 lb I think.

A G2 AP4 with a MI rail is slightly less than 7 pounds by itself.  Mine is about 8.75 with a 1-5 scope on it.  Probably could get down to 8.25 or 8.5 with a different optic/mounting system.
