I was looking at the DPMS SASS 308  G2. says its 30% less weight than old sass, and I was thinkind about putting a 5-25x56mm millet on it for a budget long range gun to play with.. any thoughts..??? there selling for 1839+- .. thanks for any opinions.   http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=412015154

I like the looks of it, but it still weighs 10.5 pounds, which is 3 pounds heavier than some of their other models.  I thought about it, but at $1800 and the extra I would spend on changing parts out to lighten it up, it wasn't worth it to me.

define "long range?"  For some, long range is 500 yards.  Others, 1000...

you actually have reasonable access to a range w/ that range on it?  The SASS may be overkill in terms of weight relative to ranges that you will actually have the opportunity to shoot at?
