I already have lots of 5.56, .300AAC, and .308.  Is it worth getting a 6.8 SPC or stick to the others.  New caliber = new ammo and new mags.

I built my first 6.8 a couple weeks ago and like it a lot.  Check out 68forums.com for all the info you want on 6.8

It fit the bill for what I was looking to do.  I needed a good whitetail round in the AR platform.  I am happy with mine.

DO IT! Great little round. My favorite Deer round now over the 308 win now. And it appears it fits in between the gap you have of the 300 and 308 as far as range and power.

I love the 6.8, have not taken it hunting yet, but am sure it will enhance my confidence in it even more. I feel it could be my one and only rifle caliber and live happily ever after.

Make sure you get the SPC II chamber

14.7 middy a good one?  I can get it unpinned easy enough when I get to a free state and need to add a can.

6.5 has better BC bullets

I think I am torn mainly between getting and stocking more 5.56 ammo.  I would definitely not stock a lot of 6.8.  Just a few boxes to hunt with unless some random box of surplus came out.

PSA had 6.8 for $15/box from a couple different loaders. Not bad at all.

If you want a hunter that can reach out to 300yrds, then it is a good option.

A barrel, bolt & mags. Then pick an upper receiver.  Done. 6.8 nirvana.

Guys have been digging the 12.5" barreled builds.

Yea, seems cool just wondering what I will llike about it over all my .308 guns.  They have longer legs.  I dont want any more safe queens.

Since 6.8,.....My 308's have become safe queens

Remember what you wanted the 300bo to be, but it wasnt....   the 6.8 is. It will be your new go to gun.  Unless you shoot further than 300yrds the 6.8 will replace your .308 and weigh less.

I have three Stag 6.8's, it is truly a good caliber for hunting with the right bullets.  It shoots accurately and animals don't run far when I do my part.  One shoots 1/2" 5 shot groups and the others are sub MOA at 100 yards.  I have a BLK, .308 and several 5.56 yet when my family goes hunting we grab the 6.8's.

Go over to 68forums, we have guys consistently taking deer and hogs DRT/ one shot kills with 10-12" barrels at 300-400 yards.

It was designed for short barrels.

I shot my PSA 14.7 middy  for the first time today, had some problems with the lower/trigger adjustment.  After I fixed that the last three rounds left a sweet cloverleaf under 1 moa, I have no doubt that the 6.8 will do the trick. There are several posts here and on 6.8 forums to back up this as an adequate caliber for everything up to and including elk.

I have a 16 and a 14.7 from PSA and it's only about 40 fps difference

And I caved, I ordered the 14.7.  I was going to order a 16 or 18" bolt gun for hunting but I will go this way, saves me $150.  I can save up and get a bolt gun in .300 win mag  down the road for long shots.

No doubt you'll enjoy it!

I have AR's in .22LR, 5.56 and .50 Beowulf but I really wanted something that was great for hogs, deer and even bigger plus would let me get into long range shooting.  I chose a 6.5 Grendel for the longer shot ability but the 6.5 and 6.8 are very close to each other within the distances most folks shoot.  I've not had the chance to hunt with mine but I sure would like to.  Congrats on the new, on the way, gun!

I assume you ordered the PSA? The barrels are made by FN and they are shooters! Much better than the price point suggests. Mine really like the SSA 110 grain pro hunters and accubonds.

I took two whitetails this past season and they never new what hit them.

I do like the Grendel better but, as I mentioned, there really isn't a whole different between the two until you get way out there.  I figure everyone should choose whichever they prefer, they are both great calibers but I'm not one of those that say one is better than the other, it just depends on what the buyer wants.

Used to be the 6.8 was better close in under 300-400 yards and in shorter barrels, but that advantage has been closed up by guys experimenting with new powders/loads etc to close that gap a good bit, it's either or, but a small plus to the 6.8.

And the same thing was going on in longer ranges for the G guys and gals. We have projos with high enough B.C. and weight now, combined with new powders that closed that gap out to 1000 yards to a couple of inches. The edge still goes to the G here though. especially in wind deflection.

Right now these two are very, very close.

I do believe the edge overall goes to 6.8 due to number of factory loads, and industry support.

Brandi, hows the purple child doing?

The 6.8 is a very good all purpose round. With ammo from 85-140gr(OK, there is the 200gr Lehigh subsonic) The 6.8 will cover most needs.

Man I have a bunch of caliber ars including 300. After I built my 300, I built my second 6.8 spc. I love it it's a great caliber with many advantages of its own. 68forums is the place to be. As previously stated.. get a spec 2 chamber barrel. I suggest WC

Look to AR15performance and Bison armory for barrels.

I loved the '80s...sort of like the 70's but without the horrible clothes styles.
