Where are you folks getting the 90gr Gold Dots? There were some at RMR but I waited one day too long to order them and they were gone.

I just received 250 pieces of .277 W brass from Bruce at JB Arms and they are absolutely BEAUTIFUL!! I can highly recommend them for brass...they're great to work with and you can get a LEO/Vet discount too.

I buy my brass from Bruce as well. he is meticulous about ready to load brass. His process for loaded ammo is getting upgraded for more capacity while maintaining a high quality product as well.

There couldn't be a better example of apples to oranges comparisons than the WLV and the Grendel.
The Grendel has a larger case head diameter, uses its own bolt and mags in non-typical capacities. I have a lot of respect for the Grendel in an 18"-20" barrel with nice glass to take a stab at the 800 meter gong, but ideal for an SBR it is not, just like the WLV is not ideal for the 800 yard gong. A 10.5" WLV will run 150-205 grain subs, and 80-110 grain supers through the same 1:7 twist tube. 30 round pmags are 30 round mags. Out of a 10.5" barrel you can get 2450 with a 95 grain TTSX - average 2600 out of a 16", 2660 out of an 18" and 2690 out of a 20". 90 grain Gold Dots being 100 fps faster than that on average. They are different creatures altogether. |

I have no care for, nor use for, sub-sonics, so what is the general consensus of effect of a super-sonic .277 Wolverine vs. the super-sonic 300 blackouts through a 10.5" barrel?
I'm looking for portability and stopping power vs. soft body armor if the shit really hits the fan. This will be a vehicle pistol build. |

ETA: aha! found a factory ammo chrono test w 8" barrel. http://www.outdoorhub.com/stories/2015/04/21/breaking-5-different-300-blackout-loads-terminal-ballistics/ lets see...110 g factory hornady vmax from "8 inch" barrel: 2169 fps, 1149 ft-lbs. a little less than the JBs wlv 100 g accubond (1236 ft-lbs) but more E than JBs wlv 110 g pro hunter (1014 ft-lbs) The guy did a Gel test with the cartridge and found 4" neck length, 17 inches penetration and recovered slug weight of 65 grains. looks like the penetration is more than in some other tests with that bullet and longer barrels higher velocity as one might expect with a fragile bullet. i am pretty sure he was using clear gel, same as in 10mm's tests. it is an extremely small data set but it looks like the Blk's bore efficiency has a slight advantage over the wlv's larger case capacity from the 8" barrel legnth. first of all, see the youtube gel test vid 10mm did w/ my 8.2" barrel, the URL is in the posts above. So, again, that is an extremely small data set, but this seems to indicate that the larger case capacity of wlv makes it ~ the equal of 300 blk from an 8" barrel in similar bullet weights. The 300 blk would probably be more powerful ouf of even shorter barrels, such as V7's 6.5" barrel due to its higher bore efficiency. Contrarily, as the bores get longer you should see WLV pulling ahead of BLK w/ similar weight bullets. I got my 8.2" for home defense so I could have the shortest easiest to balance suppressed AR that would suppress better than 556, and something easy to tote in the woods, or transport discretely if need be. The obvious answer was 300 blk, but I like how WLV cannot be chambered in a 556 chamber like BLK can w/ mere bullet setback, for what that is worth, and how it has lighter supersonic bullets. Wlv is harder to chamber in a 556 chamber, you would have to drive the bullet far back into the case and also manglefuck the case mouth. But 300 Blk is ubiquitous, relatively, FWIW. Does anyone have a 10.5" barrel, some commercially loaded ammo, and a chrono? I beleive 10mm has a 10.5" Blk barrel, perhaps someone could send him a 10.5" WLV barrel for a comparison test... |

Now do 10.5"... then longer and longer. I'm not shocked if they're pretty neck and neck at 8". However, 8" barrels are not the majority out there. I have a feeling at 10.5" and longer the comparisons change pretty quickly.

At the muzzle the WLV stays faster down to the 10.5" I believe, but someone else can do the research and post all the numbers. Downrange it most certainly stays faster longer since the BC-for-weight is higher.
Would be fun to see someone do a controlled test inch by inch, but I'm not sure it would matter much if differences in the pistol barrel lengths are only 25 fps either direction. |

Just got my 8.2 Wlv barrel back from being reprofiled.
that is 14.92 oz. The lightested 10.5" 5.56 barel I know is an Odin works at 15.5 oz 
But then I realized couldn't find a before picture 
can someone PLEASE weigh a stripped 8.2" so I know how much weight I lost. Profiles are straight, based on the AR Stoner LW 300 Blk barrel. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/311028/ar-stoner-barrel-ar-15-300-aac-blackout-lightweight-contour-1-in-8-twist-16-stainless-steel, I went a little less what for the bore being smaller to maintain similar wall thickness. I'll let you know if it blows up
ETA, I am not sure why they bead blasted half of the journal, I thought that the journal was long before, and all bright...
