airborne,
I think there are gauges available, but the vast majority of us that have .277 wlv barrels do not have gauges.
When you go the to website to buy the dies, a couple of sized cases are included that will serve as a good guide for loading. There has been a lot of testing going on with various COAL, but in general, if you use the headspace measure from those 2 cases, it will get you close enough to fire a few rounds to get your barrels actual measures

I have been doing a lot of measuring on different cases lately, so check thru the threads for better measures; however, IIRC the fired case headspace from my barrel was at 1.265-6 and I was sizing cases to measure 1.263 in my Hornady Headspace gauge.

Maybe some others will chime in to back me up. Or when I can get back to my load info pages.

I can get them custom  order for $135/set, which include a go, no-go  and field.  Or $100 for a two gauge set.  They're not cheap because they're not production.

That is kinda why I didn't get them either. Cough cough

I am cheap or at least I think I wisely saved my money by not buying them. Although, a $135 insurance policy ain't bad either. I have another thread going now on some wild .223 headspace measures; however, it appears that they are all in spec.

Guess I'm all in..... received my 18" blem barrel and die set today.

Need to get brass and other parts to build my upper.

Anyone tried AA2230, AA2520, or IMR 4895 powders?  I have these for 5.56 and .308 so I

hope to use these in the .277.

fixed the .227 typo.

While I do reload, I would love to see some loaded and possibly commercial ammo for this wonderful cartridge. (Though I should get on board.)

Welcome aboard GS.  I'm not so sure about your list of powders there as the WLV  seems to like the powders in the "between Blackout and 6.8spc" portion of the burn rate charts.  Pistol powders like 296, H110, are working in the pistol gas barrels but not so well in the mid-length.  For your 18" you will want to look for 1680, AA2200, 1200R, 5744, (4198 and 4227 work as well but are slower).  This will get you going for the 85-110 grain bullet range.  If you need any help along the way just let us know and we started a Wolverine forum that gas been up for a week now and data is getting compiled over there as well.

Thanks and have fun!

GS, when you shoot it, you are going to love it.

I have a range test of 15 different loads set for this weekend.

There is getting to be more and better data available for loading, but the powder choices are not large, especially considering their availability.

Here is my new 18".

My 16" is right below and still has the scope on it because I will be hunting again in the morning and don't want to mess with the scope right now. I will finish moving everything over tomorrow for my range time.

We're not there yet (SAAMI), maybe in another year or so, but, the planets are beginning to align.

More in a few weeks.

chilly out today, didn't get anything loaded this week but i got my new upper from Mark, reassembled the gun and went out to test the 95 ttsx with 1680.

all rounds cycled action fine, all rounds ejected to the 430-5 o'clock. went to 23.2 grains of 1680 no real pressure signs though the case at 22.6 had a small ejector smear the next 2 showed no signs primer just getting flat. velocity did taper off so 23-23.5 is probably max

If you get the pressure up to 100,000 psi or so, those pesky headstamps go away.

A 100gr Acubond sounds fantastic.  I'd love a 95gr TTSX load as well.  I am fine rolling my own of course.

What kind of velocities would be reasonable from a 16" with those two projectiles?

If you roll your own you can get 2550-2600fps out of the 100AB or 95TTSX.  Loading on your own, as you know, can let you get closer to your lands giving you a little more case room, tighen up your headspace to extend case life and reduce pressure signs, etc.

The "factory" offerings coming out will be loaded on the safer side (shorter, less velocity/pressure) since they have to accommodate for varying tolerances.  The 90TNT loads available today from JB's Firearms are getting around 2700fps out of a 16" bbl.  Handloading the 90TNT  for example, one can creep on 2800fps.

The 90TNT (Varmint/Plinking/Target) and the 100AB (Hunting) are my favorite bullets/loads so far.  The 95TTSX (Hunting) in strong third.  The AB's and TTSX are expensive bullets... so those will probably be offered in 20 round boxes.  The 90TNT's are offered in 50 round boxes.
